So anyone make it to ComiCon this year?  I didn't, but would love to hear if anyone found any interesting Undergrounds.  I was in SF a couple weeks ago and stopped off at City Lights for the first time.  Picked up a couple of their self published Bukowski paperbacks with R. Crumb covers that I'd never seen before.

Should have called, we could have done lunch and I could have showed you where you could have got the City Lights pbs for half price.....at least they were there last week! I love City Lights and enjoy wandering about the store, but I'm also a cheap Bas$ard .  I'm looking forward to that Jim Osborne book that Fantagraphics is putting out this week, I think! Seen it?

Guess you can't type Bas *spoon* here!

They weren't that way originally but something gets lost in the upload translation to this forum and I'm too lazy to figure out how to shift the guilty pix.....all necks be aware!

Wow, what great bound volumes! I might consider doing the same thing. By the way, I'm from "further down south". I do make it a point to hit Kayo when I'm up in the bay area. Always get something cool. Gotton some nice pulps there. About a year ago, I got a load of about 150 UGs for $50. at the Alamedia Flea Market. The guy even threw in a few old original EC comics as a bonus!

I have not heard of the Osborne book, I'll keep an eye out for it.  If I'm not going to keep Ferlinghetti in business who is?  I can always tell people I bought these paperback editions at THE City Lights bookstore one day...:tonofbricks:

And this came in today, completing my run of the title.  #13 seems to be the hardest issue to track down by a large margin if you're not picky on what printing you get; does anybody know why?

Zap_13.jpg

OE... I think as a general rule you'll find the Zap Comix from the 1990s - early 2000s the most difficult to find in grade and print. This is because they were late enough to not be in many of the publisher's back stock and also printed during the boom of the 1990s when most comic collectors heads were turned in other directions.

Another example of this would be Freak Brothers 12 and 13 in first printing.

The price on that Funnybook was a steal!

Yeah... that's why I told him keep the 50c (everything was 1/2 off). :$

But to be fair, these were bought from my LCS at a show- new acquisitions. They know I'm into UGs and have priced UGs for other dealers in the past for free. They only needed to ask (or look on eBay).

Glad you got some good deals at the show. One thing I neglected to tell you about the show I attended was that I picked up four copies of Psycho Comics #1 for $1 each. These were a great pickup for me because I already have three extra copies of Psycho Comics #2 that I had picked up from Mile High some time ago, so I was able to put together three sets to sell. One buyer ended up buying all three sets from me.

According to a post today by the author, this is hot off the presses, only like 3 years late, but probably worth it.

http://www.fantagraphics.com/crumbcompendium/

I've had a copy on order since 2/12. A week or so ago I got notification it will be shipping soon and I'm paying the around $13 price I locked it in at from Amazon back when I 'purchased' it along with another book that was part of the order and delivered. Looking forward to finally seeing it!

Where does the author 'post', BTW?

Those are some cool underground mags above ‼️‼️? I only know mostly about R Crumb underground mags

A lot of underground comix fans started with Crumb, and then worked their way into other things. I originally got into undergrounds because of the ones that were shown in the Crumb movie.
