Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo C2E2 + April16-18, 2010 + McCormick Place

1,036 posts in this topic

Hi,

At the New York Comic Con we announced a new event called C2E2 and it will be coming to Chicago, McCormick Place, Lakeside. Here is a link to the facility. http://www.mccormickplace.com/pdf/LocatorBrochure.pdf

Lakeside is enormous. It’s a bit big for the current need but will have room to grow and do what Chicago wants to do with it. Inside Lakeside is an incredible stage/theater seats 2,600 with balconies, orchestra pit, etc. Can you imagine the talent waiting behind a silhouette screen, the music starts, curtains rise, the crowd roars, cameras flashing everywhere. Check it out. http://www.ariecrown.com/

Chicagoans will take this event and make it a huge success. They are very keen to pop-culture and we are so happy to facilitate them in their fun.

As an Illinois resident, I can't tell you how excited I am about this convention! I have been really disappointed with what Wizard has done to the Chicago Comicon. If C2E2 is even remotely close to the NYCC in terms of quality and size then I will be tickled pink! I am especially hoping that C2E2 will have lots of comic book creators from the gold/silver/bronze ages, which have been sorely missing from Wizard World. Gereb Shamus has turned WWC into one big wrestling convention, with only modern comic book creators in attendance.

Here are some comic book creators that I would like to see there. Most of these creators haven't been to a Chicago convention in decades, if at all. In no particular order:

Dick Ayers

Stan Lee

John Romita

Carmine Infantino

Allen Bellman

Joe Kubert

John Severin

Gene Colan

Jim Steranko

Neal Adams

Paul Gulacy

Sal Buscema

Herb Trimpe

Russ Heath

Everett Raymond Kinstler

Frank Brunner

Michael W. Kaluta

Bruce Jones

Luis Dominguez

Joe Simon

George Tuska

Sheldon Moldoff

Irwin Hasen

Ramona Fradon

Sam Glanzman

Stan Goldberg

Larry Lieber

Jerry Robinson

Bernie Wrightson

Nick Cardy

Barry Windsor-Smith

Roy Thomas

Len Wein

Marv Wolfman

John Byrne

Jim Starlin

P. Craig Russell

Denny O'Neill

Joe Sinnott

That oughta be enough for starters. Do it up right, C2E2! You only have one chance to make a first impression!

Hi aardvark,

The light rails get you close but not a perfect stop. From Midway Airport the Orange Line takes you to Roosevelt. From O'Hare the Blue Line takes you to roughly Merch Market. You could then take the Red Line to China Town which is a short walk to McCormick but I think there is construction on that line now.

For convenience we plan on getting some shuttle routes at the most common destinations.

Here is Chicago's transit map. All aboard! http://www.transitchicago.com

Hope you will make the event.

I stayed at the Hilton along the waterfront hotel strip several blocks away from the McCormick center a few years back for a conference. It is a bit out of the way, but only a brisk 15-20 minute walk from those hotels, and a half hour from the mile.
