Feeling blue about current low, low auction prices:

I don't know about others but I have pulled back on some of my buying as a hedge against job loss etc. Those are some beautiful books.

There's a large effect on comic prices at the moment.  Back in January, I agreed to consign 79 comics to Comiclink for auction.  Of the 71 currently in the March auction, prices are running right now at 50% of GPA with 1-3 days to go.  Yes, a handful of the books will skyrocket on the final day, but compared to prices of picture frame comics 1-3 days before prior auctions closed there are a bunch of books destined to markedly underperform.  Who knew back in January?  At least I had the sense to offer only about a quarter of my collection in a single auction, wanting to see how the books fared.

It's far too early to tell how far the market will fall and how long it will be before prices are on an uptick again, but current world events and investment conditions are most definitely having a big impact now.

I am sure you will be sweating it out but I think books of that caliber will get close to current prices. It's tough to stay away from them but if I don't I may over extend myself.

Picture Framers,

So with being stuck at home, I decided to collate the various colors of the picture frames trade dress (kind of like Bob is doing with his postings of yellow, blue, black, etc), but doing it with scans is turning out a bit tough because of various shades/hues with scanner images.  For example, is Conan #20 (Magenta) and Conan #19 (Cyan) or something else entirely.  Rather than reinvent the wheel I thought I'd reach out.  Barton provided me with this link https://www.color-hex.com/color-names.html (Only 500 different colors lol)  Maybe if we all contribute what we think are the accurate colors based on the books we have on hand we can assemble a complete list.

In the meantime, stay well and hold fast,

Paul~

Sorry to hear about this, Bob. It's an unfortunate situation to say the least. Best of luck with the auction.  (thumbsu

There are many shades near the 'maroon' category.

I'm in the same boat. I have 350 books at c-link ATM. present bidding has the books roughly at 30% of GPA. Many of the books have two weeks to go, but 225 of them end in 5 or less days.

This may be helpful in your color compiling efforts...

Helpful? Helpful! I think Paul's work is done, unless he's willing to get really specific about the shades of color.

It's funny, I guess my color naming skills aren't very well honed. I look at Creatures on the Loose #20 in Bob's post and it looks brown to me.

lol I know exactly what you mean, Barton. When I took the color plunge I think I ruined my color perception. This is a little off the wall, but here's the post I made about my kaleidoscope trip 9 years ago (Wow, it's been that long?!? :whatthe:)

Sparked by comments made earlier regarding Picture Frame border colors,

I took the plunge into the CMYK spectrum in an attempt to quantify cover colors.

Quickly realizing I was drowning in a subtractive color model, and not wanting to spend countless

hours trying to identify original print colors by way of my RGB monitor, I backed away from any

attempt at being anal-retentively-precise and SWAGed by way through 389 cover images.

Now I'm pretty certain that black is black and white is white. And that red is red and yellow is yellow.

But when it came to some of the other 'colors', I wasn't so sure.

In any event, it is what it is.

And even with my middle-aged eyesight one can quickly see:

The Black Picture Frame Border was a favorite of the Merry Marvel Production Crew.

(Yes, I know... these are really useless facts. Get a life, MasterChief!)

If someone could dig up a 1970 color swatch it would make it easier to determine the intended color. it used to be 128 colors and prior to the early 90's it was at 266 I have an older DC swatch from the late 80's but I don't think I have a Marvel one.

Are your comics the Federal Hill Collection?

I'm pretty sure Joey never lived in Baltimore.

Thought maybe that was where the collection was discovered. Don't know much about it other than the name - just saw a lot of picture frames included in the collection.

No. Just a lot of books I acquired over the years. Had a final hammer price amount in mind when I sent them in. Februarys auctions were right on the money. March's numbers look like they will be off.
