I was really impressed with the condition of the Web of Spiderman Annual #1 in the pic with WW. I don't think that I've ever seen that in the wild. Not a key per say, but it would probably be nm+. Double-sized and bulky as it is, to have no dings and such is impressive :)

Learned two very important lessons today: don't place values on books individually and don't deal with families who jointly own an inherited collection.

A woman contacts me and tells me she has over 50 boxes she inherited from her brother who was 40 when he died in 2000. The books were passed down to her and her two siblings. The sister I spoke to said they'd had them ever since and were ready to sell. I rented a van and drove 2 hours to meet them today and it was a cluster **** from the get go. I arrive and its two sisters and one husband. They show me the shed the books are stored in and mention they have a "special box" that they think has their best stuff. It was put aside by the original owner. I want to look at that first of course and one of the sisters balked. They let me view it anyway. On top is a Hulk 181, around a 4.0. I tell them its value, showed them eBay sold listings, and offered them 80% of that because I was willing to pay more to establish a trust. This was mistake #1. The 181 was immediately snatched up by one sister and they kept hemming and hawing about how they can't sell it without the third sibling's input who isn't there and all this other BS.

I viewed around 25 boxes and most of the books were damaged from not being bagged/boarded and being stored improperly. This took around 2 hours and the whole time they are debating selling the 181 to me. I fill a longbox with good stuff and they debate on how they are going to sell it and one sister wants to go one by one on eBay. I explain that I don't have time for that, especially if I am going to continue buying books. One of the sisters gets mad and leaves. Her husband is on my side and wants to sell the books, including the 181, to me. Everyone around me is arguing. Eventually I got fed up, they accepted my offer for the longbox, and I left. Still ended up with these:

I could image the family feud in there. Seems like they haven’t reached to full agreement on what or how to sell their brother’s collection. AND the fact they had the collection since 2000!? Pretty long time to debate.

Too bad about the IH 181 not taken. The sisters seems to can’t agree, yet the husband was ready to go ahead with your offer. Still, you did got the long box with these ones in photos. That should make up enough?

Good haul.

I paid $260 for a stack of golden age that I haven't had time to go through so that Pep 90 was either a dollar or 260 dollars! 5 bucks got me that Jughead in the rain with no bag. Stuffed it and a Snow White Walt Kelly (52 reprint) under my shirt and ran for the car.

Great finds! Hey do you happen to know what # Archie issue that pink cover with Betty on it? Been trying to search for it and can’t find any info, thanks!

I was going to post a thread in the  GA section but ill put it here just to keep the clutter down. I might start a journal in the future to track stuff like this. Anyways...

Random hit on one of my want ads. Guy says he has 400+ golden age books he's looking to get rid of. Somewhat skeptical I start asking questions, history on the collection and whatnot.

Mid-low grade Original owner collection with initials on most of the books. Nothing that really stood out in the pics but I knew i had to jump on it. Go back and forth on price then he says hes a few hundred miles away. Im thinking i lost the deal now but i suggest shipping the books and to my surprise we hammer out a deal. The books arrived the other night. Still processing the books but some of the keepers are in the last pic. Lots of western, funnies, barks duck books. Some superhero stuff. Overall Im very happy with the deal.

Nice! Any Timely superhero books, or just DC/Fawcett?

Estate sale find on Thursday.  Got there a little late and was surprised to find these still there at $3. each. The guy said, I was the only one who wanted them. He said they were found in the garage in an un-plugged refregerator.
