Higher grade Elvira House of Mystery books for cheap?! You had me at hell-o!

Now to find issue one....and I think there is a holiday special if memory serves me.

You really do have an amazing success rate - keep the scores coming, love to see them!  

Networking probably number 1....gotta a friend bringing me a couple boxes to look at tomorrow....but auctions, flea markets, and conventions (not so much at the moment) are the main ways I pick up stuff.  Craigslist is not really a source for me...one small buy in all the years looking at drek on there...

Since I don't have a brick and mortar for stuff to come to me I have to continually be on the lookout for it....putting in the time and effort produces success more often than not....

I am on a number of other groups for buying and selling comics and people always seem to ask exorbitant amounts for CPV comics. Personally as a Canadian, they don’t interest me. And aside from a couple key issues like Secret Wars 8 and ASM 238, I don’t get why. Even those two issues have some people asking (and in some cases paying!) crazy prices.

This wasn't a purchase, but a very odd tale of a find.

About 4-5 years ago, the wife and I were poking through an antique mall in Wisconsin when I found a small stack of mostly unbagged comics piled on a bookcase. There were maybe 25-30 of them there, all dollar bin and priced accordingly at about $1-2 a piece. But about midway through the stack, my heart skipped a beat - Iron Fist 14, bagged but not boarded. Then I took a look at the sticker. The condition was about a 7.0/7.5, and the sticker price was $380(!)

I still can't wrap my head around it. Whoever the seller was obviously knew it was a key, but left it in a stack. So, the price indicated that they knew what they had (or, rather, believed they had more than they did), but the placement seemed to indicate that they had no idea what they had. The best I can figure is that they were not a collector and just didn't know how to store it, or some shopper slipped it in to the stack for some reason (though there were no other obvious places where it could have been displayed otherwise.)

I don't know if others have experienced something like that, but it was definitely odd to me. Needless to say, I only came away with a story:)

So even though they had price tags of $40/50/75 etc on them, they still were sold for $2ish?!?

Local pickup - paid a little less than $1.50 a book.  Nice run of Tec 544-658 (missing the 4 Year 2 books) and Batman 443 - 487.  Most appear to be high grade.

First flea market in 3 months - was it worth the risk?

Well, I did find this for $10, so I guess so 

found these as well - not as well priced, but happy to get them

Also found this “sculpture” that appears made of play doh that I couldn’t pass up

Overall, glad to be back to the hunt!

Found in the wild today at a LCS, my first time visiting. 1st print high grade (9ish). 20 bucks ! This is what the hunt is about, thrill of the chase.

I was going to go to a small auction yesterday of a long closed flea market, but had to work overtime. But thanks to them offering absentee bidding........
