Busy day at the flea market with lots of finds

First up were these 3 for $5 each

IMG_7481.thumb.jpg.c313f6dab4cd8871bf9174677d5039cf.jpg

Next, I bought a bunch of Star Wars Dark Horse books - nothing too great, but the guy gave me 40% off sticker price, so I was happy

IMG_7483.thumb.jpg.aab4692dca46a6921385db39013be28e.jpg

Some random books I picked up along the way - the DC Comics editorial presentation was interesting

IMG_7485.thumb.jpg.100c193c23e676b510bec85cec15d670.jpg

These were really interesting - Mexican printings of Classics Illustrated from the early 80s - I loved the cover art on these

IMG_7484.thumb.jpg.7fd31d0da3df9241d19855f4f9c1a809.jpg

And right before I left, I ran into a vendor with 2 long boxes of $1 books - here are some of the highlights

IMG_7486.thumb.jpg.17a64df6f6110fc4e1f84d066dba7d22.jpg

Honorable mention to this first edition (but not true first printing) of the first Peanuts strip compilation book for $5 - has bone white pages

IMG_7487.thumb.jpg.f824c9a7df67d48e6ea0810dfab69979.jpgIMG_7489.thumb.jpg.c7f67d3c665364c754ff7aee6b73ffe7.jpg

And this $15 piece which looks like an illustration of Robert Redford from the 70s - but I can't make out the name of the artist

All in all, a good day to go out hunting!

Pretty cool finds, but that one that looks Robert Redford from the 70's well..

Got these at the flea market. Would they have been shipped directly from Marvel?

my subscriptions came like that. i had x-men, alpha flight and thing. marvel ran some great deal in like 1984 or something. and then my childhood shop made all new 60 cent cover price books 3 for $1. Must have been some loss leader to put the other shops under and kill the newsstands. so I wound up buying dupe copies of many of these at the shop they were so cheap.

i can't read the writing on your's, but i was subscribing in the 60 cent cover price era and they were those brown wrappers. shockingly the comics were not horribly mangled when i got them.

Captain America 318, 319 and 320. All 75 cents. The books are in surprisingly good shape and the brown wrappers are mint. Don't know how they made it through the mail like that.

Maybe more postal workers cared then?

I have seen the brown envelopes before too. Sometimes they got folded...

...but what is weird is aren't those copies you have newsstand copies?? If they came from Marvel, should they not be direct editions??

They are all newsstand copies. I was wondering the same thing.

Books are from '86 which from what I kinda know, was a period when distribution of newsstands and direct copies were pretty much 50/50. Maybe they had an overstock of newsstand copies in the warehouse and those were used to fullfill order? I am not sure at all how the process would have went. I do know that the brown envelopes I have seen (a friend had some from when he ordered him X-Men comics back in the 80s), and the copies he received were direct editions.

Cool little treasures. Keep the envelopes for fun!
