8.3.19 I went to a sale very early in the am in a far away county. The pics showed several short boxes (maybe 20-30).. I was the first to look through them all and nothing but absolute 90s fodder dreck at it's worst lol ... The sad part is when sellers are actually dealers who try to trick people into showing up at their sales with the way they showcase their offerings. So I hit up another sale and the timing was just right.. this seller had set up in his driveway and I was just there right around the time it started and I was first to look thru the comics.. then another guy showed up 15-20 mins later but by then I had snagged all the best books for $100. The owner told me the MP15 was missing the MVS and he literally quoted me a $1 for it so I was happy. Found those SDCC advance previews at a sale I went to after for a buck each.

Wow, you are really going after all the leads!  Very diligent!  What percentage that you go to are busts?

I pick my targets very carefully and I study them so they don't waste my time.. I'd say very little are busts.. maybe 80-90% success rate in "scoring" ... that's by choosing the sales to go to very carefully and betting on risks..and being first or at least one of the firsts.. I rarely go to sales unless it's so obvious by the quality shown in the pics or the excessive quality in the description. It's hard to pass on "50,000 comics in boxes" even if there are no pics

I'm guessing these are craigslist finds?  Here on kijiji, anything that's obvious with have everyone and their dead grandmother show up, so the only edge is getting there first super early.

I rarely do garage sales but estate sales once in a while. Anytime I see comics mentioned or pictured, the younger "flipper" kids are already there with their hand held devices. I have even gone at midnight to put my name on the "list" only to find somebody has already been there first. I was very surprised to find the Strange Adventures books available. Guess the kids figured all the estate sales were locked down and didn't look.

Estate sales are usually pretty dirty and fixed. The promoters tell their friends or hold back stuff for them. Or, buy it themselves. I know because I know several of them and I get calls once in a while. Gotton real hard to buy junk any more...

seems like an opportunity (if you are so enabled) for some to start working directly as an estate sale organizer. Maybe not ideal for you personally -- that is a lot of work. But these young flipper types should maybe look into it.

Oct 25 19.. Going through my computer bullshtn.. I decide to check if there's any sales on a Friday morning and I see there's one starting in 30mins but I have to get ready and drive so by the time I arrive I'd be 15-20 mins late. I still went and missed out on huge Golden Age Archie key I saw... Luckily there is a mega thrift store in the area and comics aside I had a great clothes haul.. not bad for $5..

If we are going down memory lane...

Big pile of boxes over a year ago - paid $700 as the guy was moving back to Uk and was selling literally the day prior to flying as decided at last minute not to ship them.

Some of the haul after I sent them for grading, some are sold, some I kept. Very small sample - lots of 40 yr old 9.8's I previously posted.

Best haul I ever found.1.thumb.jpg.6b53a5e84477f9c5d2ed880ad55e3146.jpg

Sadly, all we got is "Memory Lane" right now. I love seeing people's old scores and memories. Until we can get out and prowl the flea market rows again. Bring 'em on guys!

8-17-19 ... :') This one takes me back... Whenever I see comics it reminds me of where or what I was doing in that time in my life.. I was in good spirits that Friday night... so on an early Saturday morning after having came home like 2am the morning of I went to a yard sale that one of my close by neighbors was having.. I bought from his wife as well who was selling skate tees.. she was a very tough negotiator.. I love families where everyone is selling something... His daughter was even selling me spliff lol ....I also bought vintage batman shirts and knick knacks from the guy seller... Spent $120 total with him ... He also told me about a local store closing sale. I went to that after a second yard sale- also very close by to me... there I spent $25 total.. everything from the store cost me $40.. all 3 back to back in one day :)

All of that were great finds! Especially for as much as you spent lol Maybe certain things hadn't "popped", like Nick Fury Agents #1 ......

But great finds for sure!

I'm most impressed by this TMNT! 1) I've never seen it before lol and 2) it has great shine for probably being a bit old and 3) Just looks Sweet! :headbang:

I vote that Seinfeld should have also had this in the apartment :shy:

Oct 14, 19.. Such a cold early morning at the flea. I had to ask a vendor friend if I could borrow a jacket he was selling.. $65 total.. majority were 2 for $5... This dealer circles around various swap meets but has yet to come back around... A friend told me he sold Giant Size X-Men 1 and X-Men 10 both for $40 at the flea he goes to.. and I believe him haha

11.29.2019 There's no worse feeling than pulling up to a yard sale and seeing another guy with a healthy stack of "only" 40 or so comics lol. I got a handful of great books so I can only guess what the first guy got. I ended up also buying some horror t shirts and magazines. Then this seller told me he had more longboxes of comics that he was planning to put out for his next sale (he has these every week). So I contacted him and asked If I could buy some comics since I would be in the area. The best part was when he gifted me a '96 USA Olympics track jacket for free :) Paid $25 for all the comics in the pic

There you go!  And you have a jacket to wear so you don't have to borrow one that's for sale at a flea market!  lol
