I have bought a few books from him and I am ok with the purchases. Were the books overgraded? yes but not grossly. I learned now that anyone that care to post 3 to 5 "fuzzy" pics can't be trusted. Hell, even 2 clear far away stupid angle pics like Roboj are worthless to judge...let alone 5 fuzzy out of focus pics.

Nonetheless, I did buy a Batman silver age book from him a while ago and he had no problem refunding me 100% when I wasn't satisfy with the book.

Hi again, I think comicalgems nailed it when he told me to breathe. Also, the reason I was using a money order was that I can't get my checking account verified with Paypal.

I would go back and forth between my bank and Paypal, no luck. I would much rather use Paypal, believe me, and I think I had better resolve this "account verification" issue and start using Paypal.

Greg called me today, and was profusely apologetic, and we're going forward.I gave him a positive feedback just now. He told me that he would send me the book in question plus a bonus book for half price. We'll see, If he follows through with sending the books I will send him 420.00 via Western Union, just as gesture of appreciation for the quick refund.

Thanks guys.

Dude, I would have waited until he sent the "bonus book" before renegging the neg.

He had promised me a "bonus" but never delivered.

And...sending a Western Union money gram is almost like sending cash in the mail.

:wishluck: Good Luck.

Unfortunately you mentioned the seller's name in the negative feedback you left for him on eBay and that's clearly against eBay's rules. You aren't allowed to post anyone's name, e-mail, address, or any other personal information in feedback.

Ebay will remove the neg if he reports it.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. I looked at his recent selling history and he has sold thousands of dollars worth of comics in the past couple of weeks. By the look of his feedback most people have been happy with their purchase, but I do see one other neg for item not received besides yours.

Just out of curiosity, why did you pay with a money order? Was that your decision or did the seller request it?

doh!

I'm embarrassed that I didn't recognize Jortner's name. I had read Zaid's thread about him but it had been a while ago. I blame old age and senility!

I bought a book from paradoxauctions09 recently. I don't recall assigned grades being part of their auctions - certainly not on the books I bid on. The book was nice, but it was the book I discussed on the restoration forum as appearing like a bad press job - it looked like someone had wiped away part of the gloss with a moist towel or something. Someone there recognized that as symptomatic of some kind of bad press job with the wrong materials.

I just relooked at some of his current auctions, and only about 1/2 have assigned grades.

For instance, who is Mark Zaid, and why should I as a reader care if he identifies someone as Greg Jortner?

He's one of them shysters. I wouldn't care, or probably even believe, what he says. :gossip:

:hi:

I opened the thread and all I could see was a blur of anger and your name and this Jortner chap. I'm glad that people were able to quickly point out who you are.

I heard he was so tough a lawyer that archeologists unearthed an old english dictionary dating back to the year 900. It defined "total loser" as "one who has faced the legal rage of Zaid . "

I won a couple of his Ebay auctions on October 21st for Fantastic Four 25 & 45. (See the "Buddy Can You Spare A Grade" forum for scans.) I paid him thru Paypal and received the books last weekend. Both books listed as "high grade", but in my opinion, were mid grade issues. Returned them yesterday for a refund as stated in the Ebay listings. Waiting for the refund.

Mr. Jortner responded fairly quickly to my emails during the Ebay auctions, but he was sporadic afterwards. It took him over a week to ship these books. Since Monday (11/2/09), whem I notified him that I was returning these books for a refund, I have received no communication from him. I will give a reasonable time to refund my money after USPS confirms delivery.

Filing a paypal dispute will get a response from him. You may have to wait a couple of weeks though for your money back.

No credit card? I thought you didn't need to get your checking account verified if you are paying by credit card. hm

Finally heard from Mr. Jortner after I returned FF 25 & 45 with delivery confirmed yesterday. No refund as of this evening so I filed Paypal claim.

Just keep the pressure on him. Greg is one of the numerous "dealers" out there who rob Peter to pay Paul. Eventually he will have money to refund to you. And if it keeps up I won't hesitate to put him out of business entirely. It is just a matter of time before someone interests law enforcement in his transactions. While the individual claim may not be great (and some have had six figure claims against him) when you add them all up it will attract interest.

I love the fact that he has been changing his name but in the end the smell that surrounds him always rises above the deodorant he is wearing.

The real sad fact is that Greg is actually a decent guy who could contribute to the hobby but he continually allows history to repeat itself and pull himself down into what are or borders fraudulent transactions.

Time will eventually take care of him because of, as I said above, either law enforcement or a civil lawsuit will put him out of business economically or he will annoy the wrong person who will do something somewhat more personal to him.

In the interim, hopefully this thread and the original one I created below will prevent unsuspecting buyers from having to deal with him and suffer the same fate as everyone describes in this thread.

I heard that he was so tough he bought a collection from a moose and made a profit! :o

And I'd love to know what this fella looks like because he only lives about 1 hour south of me here in CT, and am curious if he ever sets up at some of the local dealer shows here in CT. hm

So what you're all saying is I shouldn't follow through with paying him via propay for an auction I won because paypal "shut him down?"

We are exchanging emails as I type this FWIW.

But I really wanted the Avengers 16 I won on ebay... doh!

My problem is getting a refund from Mr. Jortner for 2 books that, in my opinion, were not as described in the Ebay auctions. He did ship them a week after I paid him, and I then returned them for a full refund as stated in his auction listings.

Dont fall prey to this seller's pathetic attempt to "make it right". He just wants your $ in exchange for his over-graded .

I have been monitoring his feedback over the last 2 weeks and I saw 2 negs come and 2 negs go...This guy promises a "special deal" to customers who call him on his cr@p...if they drop the neg.

Its disgusting to see how totally flawed the eBay feedback system is.

I shall NEVER, EVER buy an ungraded book on eBay again. Now if I could only get the taste of vomit out of my mouth...

Today I received a refund from Paypal for the two raw books, Fantastic Four 25 & 45, that I won on Ebay from Greg Jortner aka Paradoux LLC on October 21st. It has been my worst buying experience on Ebay in eight years! Here's a quick chronolgy of events:

Oct 22 I paid him through Paypal.

Oct 31 I received FF 45.

Nov 2 I received FF 25.

Nov 3 I return the books by Priorty Mail (with insurance and delivery confirmation) due to overgrading and inferior page quality. Books listed as "High grade" with white pages. Actually, they were midgrade copies with cream to off white pages, in my opinion.

Nov 5 Mr. Jortner receives these books and emails me to confirm delivery. He also tells me in the email that his Paypal account is frozen and that he will send me a check the next day by overnight delivery if he cannot refund my money through Paypal. I respond and tell him that I will open a Paypal claim if he has not sent payment the next day by 5 pm.

Nov 6 Mr. Jortner emails me and wants me to call him asap to discuss the situation. No mention of payment! I open the Paypal claim after 5 pm. Paypal gives Mr. Jortner ten days to respond to my "Not as described" claim.

Nov 17 Paypal moves my claim to the "Item return" stage. I provide the USPS delivery confirmation number. Mr. Jortner finally responds and requests the return of these items. doh!

Nov 18 I call Paypal to explain that I had returned these books prior to opening the claim. I forward to Paypal Mr. Jortner's email confirming delivery on 11/5/09. Paypal wants signature confirmation because of the amount of insurance (over $500).

Nov 19 I go to my post office and get a hard copy of the signature confirmation, scan it and email it to Paypal. I call Paypal, explain the situation and receive a refund! Thank you Paypal! :headbang:
