Complete Restoration Experiments

Wow, not only don't I think anything can be done about that, I am not sure anyone could.

I havent found anything that removes ink that doesn't either damage or remove the origianl ink too.

Sorry, got any comics with tape on them? :insane:

If it is grease pencil, it can probably be removed or substantially mitigated by a surface cleaning with a solvent pad.

That doesn't look like grease pencil to me. I think it is a permenant marker wide tip.

I'm not sure, really doesn't strike me as magic marker. Particularly because I've seen some transfer from the front covers of some of these books to the back covers of some others. Plus there appears to have been attempts to remove some of the black stuff.

Want to practice on one? I'll send you a book to examine and experiment on!! :foryou:

[font:Times New Roman] [/font] Book 5

It's Sunday again and time for a update on my progress.

Today I will be showing a pressed square bound annual .

It is one of my last challenges in pressing. Pressing an

annual presents unique obstacles that I don't face with

other comics. I have to be careful that I don't squish the spine

anymore than it already is , not have the staples pushing through

the cover more than before and get as much defects pressed

out as possible. getting all 3 at once isn't easy since too much

pressure, heat or humidity will cause staple or spine damage

and not enough won't get any results. I feel this book landed

on the slightly not enough side and I maybe could do better

with a 2nd pressing but I prefer to only press it one time and

be happy with that.

I know the spine isn't perfectly flat and I didn't get out all the

dent's but I hope you agree that the book is better off after.

In case you are wondering if I will be showing more tape experiments, I have a stack of them and will be showing then ASAP.

Here is a sneak peek of a future book # .

Here you can see the first is before and the second is

after but 3 third is inspiration from what a little birdie

told me.

I want to get out all of the stain so this isn't finished yet.

Thanks for checking out this weeks addition. :)

Book 6 Incompleted

Hi all, I have removed a foreign staple and tape

from this Strange tales # 114 and now I am at

a crossroads and need your help. Please look

at a the photos and let me know weather you

think I should just put it back together or if I

should fix some of it's defects.

The defects that I propose to repair are as follows:

A: tears seals. This book has allot of tiny and large tears.

B: Detached centerfold repaired.

C: piece fill. Badly trimmed back cover top edge.

TBH I was considering leaving A and B alone but when

I saw C it just didn't feel right letting it have a trimmed

label which is why I have asked for your votes.

If you choose to vote for some restore then please pm

me or post reply with which ones to be done A,B and or C.

It is also open for discussion. :)

where the cover should end.

I agree. Do them all. This book is a great candidate for you to practice on.

It's a beater all right, but I don't know about a great candidate. If I were a restoration professional and had to fix that book, I would jump off a cliff! That book is a TALL order. lol It would be bad enough if it were a golden age DC with its thick paper, but this is a threadbare early silver age Marvel that needs large piece fill and a bunch of tear seals. The level of difficulty is really high.

That said, I voted for MCP to do all of the proposed restoration. The book is a beater (as it should be) and it's a learning process for him. If he can pull off even a reasonably acceptable job on this book, that'll be impressive in its own right.

Wow, that's an even bigger piece of work than some of the challenges than I sent to you!

I'm another vote for "all".

I think the book is such low grade, and has already been "restored", so everything you could do to it should be an improvement.

Well, now that I have these in hand I am positive

that these marks are not grease pencil. This is

my second try and just did this a half hour ago

so it is hot of the press. I will let you know if I

ever get 100% out.

What a horrible thing to do to a comic. Even though it's not totally gone, big improvement. (thumbs u
