Got an HP 8250 about 3 years ago on Ebay for $25. Works like a charm. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I don't have room for it by the computer, so I keep it in the closet & get it out whenever I need to use it - and it's heavy! Does anyone know if there is a legal-size wireless scanner out there?

Click on that link and you should see a column that includes "User Guides."

Click that and you should see the link to the "User Guide" PDF.  It is a 63 page manual that should answer most of your questions.

For the record, I own an 8300 and VueScan software - very happy with it.

When I got mine, HP8300 had stopped updating the drivers for Mac, so I needed the VueScan software.  

With VueScan, the HP8300 is compatible with the Mac OS.

No idea whether you could get HP to fix it if it broke, but I have a feeling they wouldn't.  At that price, I think you would better off just buying a new one, rather than paying for a repair.

Don't know about the Plustek.

One other thing about the HP8300:  It works great for raw books or for books in shallow slabs.  But you can get significant glare on books in GA slabs, as shown here.  People have given tips for reducing the glare, such as pressing down gently on the slab while scanning it, but I haven't had much success doing so.

when I look at the Vuescan site it shows they support the HP Scanjet 8200 driver but not the 8250 - does the 8200 support cover the 8250 as well?

Any help is appreciated!

I don't know, but I would be surprised if it didn't.  I have an HP8300 and VueScan supports it.

That is the scanner I use for comics/ slabs and I love it. I have to use it with Vuescan as well since changing my O/S to Win 10. Under Win7 the original HP 7400 C software for scanning still worked.

Since we have a slab sample above, here is a sample scan on a raw using the HP 7400 C with Vuescan:

Here’s the most recent scan I can get to it’s from mobile. I’m not near the computer.  But I have learned in 7 months to take the bag off while scanning :banana:
