Thanks.  I've got the trial version and I like it.  Just to be clear though, the software still won't allow someone to clearly scan a CGC slab using a CIS scanner, correct?  It must still be a CCD scanner?

Correct

I've been on the look out for a microbes i800 for about 3 months without luck because I'm tired of the glare on the HPs. I know some slabs will always get some glare but what other scanners are best to minimize glare?

I have a HP and the MicroTek i800 - the MicroTek is a million times better on glare than HP.

I too have been keeping an eye out for some of the MicroTeks, but have been using my ol' trusty for a while .20210203_121724.thumb.jpg.7a6f11ecfac5c6fb7cd3d344f10fb506.jpg

But as several have mentioned they do produce glare on some of the books.  Here are some examples of with the glare..scan0098.thumb.jpg.95ac4f45f667c7817b4f3c2c5e40d3a0.jpg.40ee768fccd2d3386a622ab4542e22ef.jpgscan0222.thumb.jpg.7f38694492b8eed32efba272bd6e3ed9.jpgscan0104.thumb.jpg.b70fe17fc8efa37ae16789135aded96e.jpg.b226b64ddd917e2ff77cff5849d6a9c0.jpg

and some without. scan0138.thumb.jpg.669ca6e576f691ac97fbdb752d482197.jpg.edb8fe49cfdd93eaf87ed4fab2453234.jpgscan0126.thumb.jpg.d26ea54015c19510ade903ea1dbd480b.jpg.9f54f227ab37deb2b9430ba2d293da67.jpg

I still haven't found a nice used one. Anyone have a link to buy new?

I'm not sure you can buy them new - maybe the i800+(?) but don't see it for sale anywhere.  I bought a 'new' one on ebay a few months ago, it wouldn't even fully power on, needless to say it wasn't new and got returned - rather disappointed but good news is my used one still works.

Posted this previously, but example of difference in glare (first image is HP, second is MicroTek):

I've been looking to upgrade to an i800 from a HP8300 but it's been near impossible to find one at a decent price.

The Hp solution software that came with my HP. 8300 won’t load anymore. Thus I can’t scan. Does anyone have a fix for this? I tried uninstalling the software then reinstalled it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’d recommend paying $35 for the Vuescan software. Small price to pay for the time and headache fixing those software issues you mention.

I can't find a legal-sized scanner anywhere near where I am, or that has reasonable shipping rates (I'm in a regional part of Australia).  I have a Cannon MG5765 here (A4 scan size) and I can easily take an unbroken scan of the comic, then scan the top of the slab and stitch the two together seamlessly on the bit of the slab that separates the label and the comic... buuuuut, the scanner seems to scan the outer shell of the slab, leaving the comic inside blurry.

Has anyone discovered a fix for this using software?

Sounds like your Cannon is a CIS scanner. Software won't help. Must have a CCD scanner to focus inside the slab.

I  purchased and installed Vuescan. I think its far superior to the HP software. Thanks so much for your help. The willingness and desire to share information is one of the things I like best about these boards and the people on them.

Back in January, Adobe stopped support for Flash, which means the HP software won't work anymore.  I know you found a solution, but I wanted to put it out there in case you were wondering why it stopped working all of the sudden.

I have a used HP 8300 scanner (legal size scan bed with CCD) available for sale in the Denver area.  It produces good CGC scans with Vuescan on my Windows 10 computer.  I don't want to ship it due to size and weight, but if you are in the Denver area and looking for a good comic/CGC scanner, drop me a PM.  Thanks...
