Oh no..don't go there, these covers I freakin think are awesome, and the contrast on using the same pencils, were original...yes go ahead and give slack about it..I said it, original.

I like the covers too ............ good way to compare the 2 costumes that dominated the story lines in the mid to late 1980's

But I still wonder if he got 2 paychecks?

Wasn't McFarlane getting paid huge record amounts of money (for an artist) by Marvel before he left?

I guess it would all depend if he inked them..he penciled once...but whoever inked, did it twice... lol

Leave it to McFarlane to pay homage to himself

Byrne does it all the time.

I wonder if he got 2 paychecks for this back to back beauty:

I think an artist travels outside the definition of "homage" when they celebrate themselves by recreating their own covers...Bluntly, I would call that: Bryne and McFarland just plain "jerking off"....

I never noticed the July, 1938 cover date of Action #1 used as the squad car number before.

Nice touch.

Based on the cover date, I assume this was on the stands in July 1988 (50 year anniversary) ?

Damn THIS is cool

Over 500 comic cover swipes "exposed"

Choose the title from the drop-down menu and then the issue number

Someone has done some research here

Thanks man! That's a great site, but they haven't even begun to scratch the surface. This is probably the most swiped image in the history of swiping. And these are just the covers, there are interior swipes too.

The Golden Age board (Bang Zoom thread) has some great research on cover swipes. Mostly from pulps on to comic covers.

No images but here are some I think have been swiped over the years

X-men 141 ( can't remember but I know it's been swiped)

Superman 14 (one of the Death of with the Gold statue, probably others)

Suspense 39 (ASM 259?)

X-men 56 and X-men 135 among others

Xmen 49 has been swiped but can't remember by what

X-men 42 had a spoof swipe by something

X-men 100 and 101 have been swiped
