I should have been collecting Jade instead of funny books

Watched Antiques Roadshow tonight.

 

A Jade collection was shown.

 

It was the highest appraisal ever made on the show

Yea, but its hard to overgrade jade.

That collection sold for substantially less...though still a serious amount....than the appraisal.

China economy has slowed down though (as has the rest of the world) so maybe this was a factor.

 

Also sometimes the roadshow appraisers quote in terms of the value it would sell for in a shop, which tends to be higher than at auction.

True - I hate it when they use "insurance value" simply to pump up the price by 50% and more for drama. But in this case, the appraiser used "a conservative auction estimate".

 

Roadshow estimates are often, to be kind, optimistic. It makes for better television.

its kinda sad she sold off her father collection.. i hope she atleast kept some of it to stay in the family

 

honestly... why... if jade means nothing to you and you can get half a mil........ hard to say no... and her father probably would have been the first one telling her to sell if he were alive
