Off-White Pages or White Pages??

Ok guys what are your thoughts on this?

If someone was selling a book, graded at any paticular grade, with Off-White pages & another one, same book same grade, with White Pages are you willing to pay the extra cash for the White paged book? NOTE: a rep at CGC informed me that the page color does not have anything to do with the grade. So why do we care about the page color??? :insane: Would you pay more and if so by how much?

I will only buy from a seller if he describes his books as having "Bone" White or "Snow" White or (personal fave) "Blinding with the FURY of a 1,000 Suns" White.

Anything short is not worth having.

I would rather the high grade with the off-wht than a lower grade with wht...pages will not be seen once they are encapsulated (unless of course the book is de-slabbed) and the higher the grade the better.

I prefer my pages to be "supple creamy white". :cloud9:

This answer has a sliding scale for me. It depends on several factors.

For me, I wouldn't get late Bronze or Copper in OWP. OWWP is the minimum for me. Especially with the availablity of these books. I can be a bit picky.

Early Bronze and Silver? If I have a choice of the same book in OWP or WP, it would depend on the $$$. $10-20 premium...sure. Anything more than that I would probably take the OWP.

I would not pay more for white pages but I think it's highly desirable to find a 40-50 year old comic that still has white pages. Finding an old comic that looks and feels as if you just plucked it off the newstand is very cool.

Having said all that, I think some collectors are a bit too nuts about white pages, but that's all part of personal preference right?

Same grade OW vs W, obviously I'll take the white, but the grade matters more to me.

Agreed.

For me it would depend on the age of the book. If it was a platinum, golden or even silver age books I would pay extra for white pages. Bronze or copper age books I would not. I may not even buy a Bronze or copper age book OW unless every print made of that issue was the same color.

Visable difference sure.......but the comic is graded and sealed. You won't see the pages.

It's an individual choice and you seem to go with the WP. So, how much more would you pay for a WP over a OW-WP? Same book, same grade.

I could care less, whether we're talking about some of my low grade babie or my higher grade books (Yes, I DO own a number of high grade books!).

The only time I really begin to care about PQ is when we begin talking about books that are tan, brown, or brittle. THEN we're looking at possible defects and THEN I'm not paying premium. Otherwise, it's just another for niche, competitive collectors to out do one another. I'm not knocking it, as each to their own. But I do believe that it's something of a manufactured means of add another competitive facet to the collecting game.
