Things created as far back as the early 1920's still have legal copyrights. Public domain is becoming harder and harder to achieve. As long as the property is continued to be used it will never reach public domain

I think you're getting a litle mixed up, as we're just talking about the copyrighted works, as per the website in question. No one is talking about the character/trademark of Wolverine going into public domain, but more the comics he appeared in, like Hulk 181.

When Disney was about to lose copyright on Mickey Mouse, it was the earliest animated works, like Steamboat Willie, Plane Crazy, etc. not the character. Disney still owns him, but if they didn't pay off the all those Senators to create the "Mickey Mouse Extension", then anyone could watch, copy, use, display, etc. those old cartoons as they'd be public domain. The old Popeye Fleischer cartoons from the same era are in public domain, so obviously the law isn't anywhere near equal. lol

What's really dirty about Disney tactics is that the company has made billions on stealing old fairy tales and stories that fell into the public domain, while scamming as much as possible to delay their own creations doing the same. Pretty low, even for Disney.

Yeah, unless I am mistaken, every time they reprint Hulk 181 the timeline starts all over again ???

I think it's how Disney keeps the suicidal rapist Mickey Mouse from being printed and is probably an explanation for why Marvel all of a sudden decided to start printing so many phonebook sized collections.

Part of what you said simply isn't true. It is true Disney was involved in the most recent extension of the copyright act, but it wasn't an act that only affected Mikey Mouse cartoons while leaving Popeye high and dry.

Copyrights are a long and complicated issue, but to try and make it as brief as possible, prior to the 1970s, copyrights had a 28 year window, which could be then renewed for another 28 years afterwords, but they had to actually be renewed.

Those old Popeye cartoons were not renewed after the intial 28 years, which is why they fell into the public domain. Same with the Superman radio show, issues of Black Terror, etc. It has nothing to do with the recent extensions, it has everything to do with the laws at the time.

Nope, it goes from the date of the first publication. Howcome sometimes in a later printing the copyright looks updated?

Copyright 1997, 1998, 1999

I have seen that before.
