Nice Spider-man run on E-bay

I just looked up ASM #6 and ASM #7 on the gpanalysis site and both CGG books sold for above CGC prices. ASM #6 had some scuffs on the cover and some noticeable wear -- even for a 7.0 -- so why the high price? confused.gif

Not enough information. Why are you only looking at at the 7.0 books and why only those 2 issue numbers? Who were the sellers (someone with 700 positive feedbacks will generally attract more bids than a zero feedback seller, etc.). All things being equal, CGC graded books will consistently sell for more than their CGG graded counterparts. Fluke sales can always happen.

WTF? Since when did GPA start tracking CGG comics? When? confused.gif

BOC,

Right. I understand that. I looked up the CGC prices and compared them to the CGG auction prices. That's all I'm saying. The basis for comparison is the 7.0 grade. I'm not making a judgment as to whether the same grading standard is shared between the two grading companies.

Are these the two CGG auctions you're talking about?

What are the prices given for each of these issues on GPA in this grade? It's easy to pick out the occasional fluke sale...but we're talking about on a consistent basis, all other things being equal. These two CGG auctions you pointed out were auctioned off by a power seller with 5,760 positive feedbacks and only one negative. A better question is, how much more could THIS seller have received for these books if they had been CGC graded?

Man... I can't believe another CGG thread broke out and nobody called me... foreheadslap.gifforeheadslap.gif

Oh well... I was too busy spending the money I got for my CGC 10s this week anyway...

Hey RS... You gonna be at the Portland show on March 7th? Or the Seattle show on February 29th? We've got some informal forum gatherings and we'd love to have you show up. flowerred.gif

So you're saying the book was overgraded by CGG? And I guess you don't want to comment on the other questions I asked?

Scarface,

I don't really know if this book was overgraded. Based on the scuffs and cover wear, one could probably make a case; however, I'm no expert when it comes to condition. I also recognize the fact that some defects may be worse when examining a comic in person while others may seem less severe.

As for your other questions:

<< What are the prices given for each of these issues on GPA in this grade? >>

From August 2002 to June 2003 --> $555.00, $455.00, $560.00, $535.17, $611.00, $553.00. Average = $544.89

<< A better question is, how much more could THIS seller have received for these books if they had been CGC graded? >>

I really do not know. All that I know is that the CGG ASM #6 sold for $576.00 which is $31.11 more than the GPA average. Does this mean that a CGC graded 7.0 wouldn't have sold for more? Of course not. It may have sold for a record $612 and it may have only gone for $544. Without this particular seller offering both books for sale at the same time, it's impossible to say. My point simply was that I was surprised at the level of the CGG sale so I asked a question.

As for ASM #7 and the rest, the prices seemed to be pretty strong. Yes, perhaps it was the seller and not the merchandise that led to these prices. That's a possibility. But I really don't think you can prove that assertion without comparative CGC sales from the same eBay seller.

I understand what you're trying to say, but there are several things to consider with these particular books. These two Spider-man issues are desireable, even if they are sold raw. And trying to compare a single CGG sale to the average known sales of several CGC examples isn't really a fair comparison. How do we know there haven't been 3 other CGG examples that sold for under $300 that we're not aware of? Again, fluke sales prices are going to pop up...but I think you'd be hard pressed to find many people in here who think CGG prices consistently equal or exceed their CGC graded counterparts....all other things being equal (timing, seller status, etc).

...which is exactly why I asked the question in the first place. Look, I'm a comic collector just like you are and I like to be informed. I was simply wondering why these comics sold for so much given the CGG grades and I thought there might be some on this forum who knew more about specifc sales or reasons than I did.
