Anti CGC

I like banana pudding, the problem is I keep getting tapioca. CGC helps me get the banana I need. Of course I have to remember to take the plastic off before I eat it.

Hello to all my fellow collectors! I want to know if there is anyone out there that hates CGC as much as I do. It disgusts me that CGC has taken over my hobby. I refuse to pay thousands of dollars over what a comic is worth just so I can get some plastic over my comic and a 9.4 or 9.6 grade. I think this is ridiculous. Comics were meant to be read or at least looked inside. I have at least looked inside ALL my comics even the very expensive ones because that was the intention. Slabbing baseball cards and coins is a good thing. I wouldnt have it any other way but thats because they only have a front and back. Comics were not meant to be slabbed. As a matter of fact, where I live, in the DC, MD, VA area at the small conventions, nobody has CGC books for sale. Even when I go to the bigger cons like Baltimore comic con, most people have raw books. And when I talk to the dealers, most of them say they hate CGC. I dont even think their grading is that great. Everybody has seen that Action 1 with the big chunk missing and they graded it a 2.5 when it should have been graded a fair. And yes I do have some CGC books, about 10 and some I disagree with the grade. I have these books because I intend to sell them in the near future but it would have been nice if I could have seen the inside. Most of the time when I buy a CGC book, I open it because the stupid plastic annoys me. I just dont get it. I wish CGC would just go away!!!!!!!!!!

Let's all welcome Greg White to the Boards. :applause:

Whos Greg White? Dont know the name.

He's the Anti-CGC. :gossip:

Anti-CGC, and either unable or unwilling to spot resto. The man is a walking contradiction.

How does Richie Muchin feel about Cgc ? lol

I'd ask him, but he'd throw a raw golden age book in my face.

Is that a dot of glue and color touch on your face?

Comics were meant to be read or at least looked inside.

You can take them out of the slab and read them.

In fact when I first heard of CGC I imagined it'd be a good thing if a good number of people treated slabs as a sort of escrow company, putting a third party assessment and also protecting the book while it's up for sale. (less concern of people handling it while they inspect it, or returning a different book, etc)

So one guy sells it in a slab, next guy buys it, opens it, reads it, then at some point puts in a new slab to sell it. Next person buys it, open it to read it, etc, etc.

I think he brings up a few good points. 100k for an Xmen #1 is crazy and would not have happened without CGC. But most of the rest is .

If I remember correctly Steve admitted he was human and dropped the ball on the Action #1 that the original poster mentioned. They do a hell of a job, but like every one of us, are human and will make a mistake from time to time.

I am glad that I woke everybody up today. But really I am not the type of person that bites his tounge on anything. If I have something to say then I say it as long as it is honest and comes from the heart. I really beleive in everything that I said and I was not trying to insult anyone. The reason why I posted it on this forum is because this is the most well known comic forum I know. Guys I just want you to know that I breathe, eat, and sleep comics. I love comics almost as much as I love women. And when I think something like CGC is actually hurting my hobby that I love so much, I am going to speak out about it whether people like it or not. So just know I wrote this for the love of comics and not to offend. Thank U for your thoughts on this matter.

If you truly love comics, why would you create a post that may very well get you banned from the boards? I would think you'd rather stick around and talk comics.

Oh and I call bs on your post...anyone with even an ounce of intelligence or ability to make casual observations know that cgc has done more for our hobby than any other single entity in the past 10 years ... Sure you are entitled to your opinion about cgc, no problem there...but not sure there are too many that would support your pov

The restoration check alone has been such a positive for the hobby. And not to sound like a broken record, but you can take the book out of the slab. Plastic is very easy to crack.

And I like banana pudding. Tapioca on the other hand (tsk)
