Marty Mann
I always believed that these great painted covers were created by the same artists that illustrated the FAWCETT pulp covers. damonwad and adamstrange
damonwad
Cool books Marty. The Tom Mix #11 and Hoppy #24 were by Kinstler and the Tom Mix #20 was by Norman Saunders. I know Kinstler did some pulp work but I'm not very familiar with it. I've seen lots of great Saunders pulp covers though. Marty Mann
Popular Post Electricmastro
Gotta say, Avon’s Wild Bill Hickok probably has some of the best set of covers for any Western comic of the time, drawn by artists such as Graham Ingels and Harold Scott, but mostly by Everett Kinstler. Popular Post Courageous Cat
admittedly many (not all) western covers just don't do it for me, but many atlas covers like this are just stunning. Very under appreciated and I buy them while prices remain relatively low Edited July 19, 2020 by Courageous Cat mikeyc67, damonwad, PopKulture and 2 others

damonwad
My odd western observance of the day: Matt Baker used a different style signature on all three covers of Western Bandit Trails.

Electricmastro
Gotta say, I find it amusing how Everett Kinstler went about drawing grass in western comics. He just zigzags the grass lines all over the place in some areas (Wild Bill Hickok #14, March 1953):
Electricmastro
Gerald McCann‘s art seems to have so much heaving inking, that the art can look gloomy even when it’s not meant to (Dead-Eye Western Comics #12, October 1950): Edited September 13, 2020 by Electricmastro

comicginger1789
Hi everyone, I am relatively new to Golden Age stuff in general (within the past 5 years I have really tried to grown my knowledge) and while I feel I have a slight handle on superhero, horror and sci fi stuff, I am kinda clueless when it comes to Westerns. I was wondering if anyone here who is a diehard Western collector might shoot me a message as I am going to be looking at a collection in the coming week. Lady says she has a bunch of 10 cent stuff and I just want to know what to look for or even if I don't end up buying, extend the olive branch to someone who is genuinely interested. For me, I go based of covers a lot of the time with Western stuff...if I like it, I will buy it but I do not have much at all in the personal collection. Anyway, I will likely do a post once I see this collection and go from there but wanted to message here in case anyone can give me some ideas heading in of stuff to go for and stuff to just avoid. MrBedrock
I would avoid anything with a $2.95 cover price. Bumble Kitty

Westerns have been on a downward plunge for a long time. It is tough to put a price on GA westerns anymore. If it might be highest grades of a key issue it might be worth something. Common books in low grade would be difficult to move.
