Don't forget the "mini" spots Andy.  A lot of these clowns will run mini-raffles to get into the big raffle.  So the main raffle is 20 spots at $50 bucks for a book worth maybe $750, then they'll have a couple of mini raffles where you have 20 spots at $5 each for another entry.  I've seen as many as 20 mini raffles for one book.  The only people making money off these things are the ones raffling the books.

It's criminal, and the mouth-breathers that are participating deserve everything they get (usually nothing).

This is not typical of the raffles I've seen. In fact, I've never seen one like this. Are you on Instagram? Take a look at those and let me know if you think they are all on the up and up and a great deal for the players.

they are never legit its a huge scam... I've seen people post how they make tons of money by scamming with these raffles or mystery boxes where they put 10$ worth of 1 dollar books in there so they turn a profit even more with the mystery boxes. They were all over eBay for a while but I dont see them anymore.

I agree unfortunately I am sure there were a few that were legit and ran by some good people, but I was out after I offered to buy the book from someone was a low grade AF15 and he said sure we agreed on a price so waiting to get a invoice from him he put my name in the raffle... smh.. messaged him asking why is the raffle still going he said he would just say I am the winner but we can do our agreed on price.. .. I said no thanks,

I was in a FB group that ran these. I think I bought into 2 of them for a grand total of $50 and didn’t win either so I stopped immediately. I stayed for a while to watch and it doesn’t take long to see that many of the people participating are degenerate gamblers. Saw one raffle where a guy bought in $600 worth of spots for a $900 book...and lost. Naturally drama ensued.  :screwy:

I used to be able to do Raffles in my sales threads and gave away a cool book or two to those who bought stuff in my thread - a raffle ticket for each book you bought in my thread. It was never some super awesome key or anything like that. It was just a fun thing to do. But in my last two threads I got called on it....someone sent me a "nasty gram" saying it was a "no-no" and suggested I remove it because "someone may report me."

I guess Raffles like this are the reason :p

How does the saying go? "This is why we can't have nice stuff."

I've run perhaps a dozen raffles and every one of them was one hundred percent square. Been involved in many charitable ones and only one gave the appearance of being fixed.

On the other hand, I have seen numerous casino raffles that certainly seemed fixed.

It's a shame people aren't more honest, but more of a shame people are so suspicious.

I travel through the city on the subway.

I'm conditioned to be suspicious of anyone that says, "Hello."

This thread is a pretty great snapshot in time on how the hobby and this forum has changed over the years.

There were a few level heads back in the beginning of the thread who didn't come out with pitchforks but there was a lot of outrage, wrent clothing and screaming about pressing.

Of course there is no excuse for the stories that the buyer laid out but my point is primarily about the pressing and the outrage.

How times have changed.
