Here’s something I found in a long box of independent comics:

M.A.I.N. Magazine Volume 2 No. 1 featuring Dave’s Vampirella art. MAIN stands for Mature Audience Industry News and this magazine is as much about comics as it is adult trading cards.

Has anyone ever seen this before? I can’t find any photos or information about it online - anywhere.

This magazine had it all: comics news, adult trading card news and ads, cartoon news, a Sabrina the Teenage Witch pinup by Dan DeCarlo, Adam Hughes Ghost and Vampirella coverage, a Stephen King interview and even WCW pro wrestling news!

The back cover is an Elvira photo cover.

It’s such a weird magazine, but I’d never seen it before yesterday.

I don't remember when it was, but a few years ago I showed this hardcover edition of Iger's Comics Kingdom that I bought from Steve Schanes at the Pacific Comics or Blackthorne store in El Cajon, CA (back in the late 80s or early 90s).  At the time of the post no one here seemed to have ever seen a hardcover copy before.  So, today I got the answer from Steve about this.  He said he printed only 40 HC copies of the book.  Now you know...if you even still care...Happy Holidays!

Belated thanks, @Tri-ColorBrian! I very much appreciate the info. I had seen this book on checklists for years before I ever actually saw a picture of one, so I wasn't even sure they existed for the longest time. That print run would certainly explain why!

I saw that thanks to someone in one of the G.I. Joe topics posting about some original art pages in the same auction. It's a beautiful drawing that I couldn't get away with displaying. I remember Dave Stevens telling a story about a kid wearing the Rocketeer T-Shirt with a bound Bettie over his shoulder. I don't think anything is really wrong with that drawing because The Rocketeer is rescuing Bettie but it is tame compared to this drawing.

Sadly though I didn't see that Rocketeer and Bettie drawing when I was in High School. I remember this cute blonde girl who was always either teasing me or I don't know what. I was late for class one day and she was in front of my locker. I said I'll pick you up. And she said try it. But I was too polite. Now I wish I said I'll Rocketeer you.

I think that was done in the same way as my Blackthorne Boner's Ark hardcover.  The softcover's interior (cover removed) was bound in dark blue cloth boards, and then the cardstock front cover was trimmed and pasted on the front.  Spine stamped in gold.

Love that Stevens work, very appealing.
