I picked up a run of Daredevils from around 2001, and they don't have the issue # in the top box like the DM versions have. Any way of telling which issue is in a bag without opening them up?

No easy way. I use a cover gallery site to match them up.

Thanks. Any idea why Marvel chose not to put issue #s on them?

One theory I remember: they experimented with it to see if it would lessen the fear of people jumping onto the title. If it says #25 or whatever on the cover, then people think they need to read the previous 24. If it just looks like a new comic, with no indication of history, then maybe more people would buy it.
