Warlord
Time to bump this thread with a cool new 3-pack! This is the only pack I can confirm has a non-DC comic packaged together with DC Whitmans. Here we have DC Whitmans of Superboy #254 and #256 as the outer books, and a Marvel issue in the middle -- the direct market version of Incredible Hulk #238. I think that there was another pack I spotted way back at the beginning of my DCW collecting that had a DC Whitman together with a non-DC comic, but I can't be sure because I didn't save an image or any notes. Another reason this pack is great is that it is also the first pack I've ever located that contains Superboy #254. Not so with Superboy #256 -- I've previously spotted Superboy #256 in a 3-pack with Brave and the Bold #156 plus Super Friends #25. The uninterrupted continuation of Western's 3-pack Whitman program with Marvel comics, well into the Direct market era, is pretty sound circumstantial evidence that, while DC's Whitmans were, in fact, specifically produced for distribution by Western, the Marvel program was not. And we know that's absolutely true after early 1979, because Direct distribution at Marvel went line-wide, for all titles...and those books were not distributed solely through Western. Thus, calling the Direct market books from Marvel from 1977 to 1979 "Whitmans" is, and always has been, a misnomer. It's very fascinating to me how DC and Marvel handled the Direct market. DC was the first to have UPC box art in 1978 (Marvel didn't have UPC box art until Jan, 1980 cover date), but Marvel was the first to make a distinct Direct market product with feb, 1977 cover dates. Man, I wish I'd been older and could have recorded all of this as it came out. Thank you!

On a bit of a tangent, I'm slightly surprised that they have two issues from one title and one from a second in one pack. I would have thought they would either try to go for all one book, or go for variety, not a bit of each. I wonder if this bag is in some way a production error, both for that and the multiple publishers. Or maybe they just didn't care...

Popular Post bellrules
Time for a New Year’s bump. Here are some recent acquisitions, a bunch of Canadian Whitman packs. Some containing rare issues from 1980. Also managed to get a different sealed pack of rare price error issues from 1/81 which have 40 cent cover prices instead of the usual 50 cent cover price. I keep an eye out for them when I'm out and about, I'm just not too familiar with them... seems if I got a "guide" book it might help, but I never see too many sales to figure the rare ones... I just figured that they might be like "war books?" In that people want them but for cheaper? If that makes sense Edited January 6, 2019 by ADAMANTIUM

Warlord
Here are some 1980s Marvel packs. AFAIK: Chuck Norris is trapped in the pack with Silverhawks and Thundercats. Muppet Babies is in the middle of Care Bears and Heathcliff. Heathcliff is in the Flintstone Kids and Fraggle Rock pack. wormboy

Knightsofold
I’m looking for pictures and/or info on some marvel 3-packs I got as a child. I’d like to know what issues were paired together and if I missed any. Any info would be so great!!! Thank you. These I know I got from 3 packs but would love to know which were packed with which, and if I’m forgetting any.: These I’m not sure if they were from 3 packs... Thanks again!! Have added a few more since then, but they’re getting harder and harder to find. They used to pop up all the time on eBay, now it’s few and far between.
