So what ever happened to Lighthouse, anyway?

no way i'm reading all that. where the *$()# is the "tl;dr summary?"

I think he said he sent Nerf's books to Iraq.

No, he said all the porn went into the landfill.

WTF already. He's still on the probie list which says to me that all is not right with Lighthouse. Kudos for donating those books to the troops but something inside me says that you should have sent the books people paid for to them instead of giving them away.

Not so. He's still on the list for screwing up over and over and over again.

Nic, I'm with Mutie Fan on this one. Regardless of history, Lighthouse has done something very kind. I don't want to buy comics from him but I

appreciate his act of generosity and I enjoyed reading his original post.

OK, I wasn't around for the trials and tribulations that led him to the probation list. I'm also a disabled veteran of the US Army, so of course I appreciate anything done to support our troops.

HOWEVER.

Getting a tax credit for the lot would be undoubtedly total more than someone like Rozanski would pay him for the lot, which he would then have to pay taxes on anyway.

I had contacted a half dozen charities about the store stock. My first choice was Comics 4 Kids, but without their 501©(3) paperwork in order, it just didn't make sense. In addition to the tax issues

Now, I can understand wanting a tax credit, but please don't pretend you only did it for the soldiers out of the goodness of your heart.

I'm glad you found a worthy cause for the books (and got your tax credit).

'House- I'm glad to see you are alive and well. Nice gesture donating the books to our troops overseas. Happy New Year, and I truly hope all your problems are in, and stay in the past.

I did have this idea to do so, but No unfortunately those aren't my books,

I have had some things pop up that impeded me from doing so,

BUT I have done well over my share for the troops overseas in the past few years.

I have sent a lot of care packages and paid for a good bit of care packages to be mailed.

I have tried to go beyond the call of duty because when I was in I didn't receive a single package

nor was I ever told thank you when I was in and since that is the case I try to do what I can as far

as packages and tell veterans inactive and prior service "thank you for serving my country".

It's not a rough crowd for what was done by Lighthouse. Pat, I'd say the same to you, you have no idea what he put some people through, and not just through boards transactions.

What was done here though, was a good thing. But if you people want to revile any dealer, or want to talk about Ewert, or Gerry Ross, or Danny Dupcak, House is a dealer in the same category of those folks, ripping off folks repeatedly in the past and at times "borrowing" money for unbelievably long periods of time.

That being said, I never thought the intent was malicious, but rather that House would get in over his head and not have the sense to confront the problem but rather stick his head in the ground. I don't say that to excuse it, but it is an explanation.

I was made aware by Nick already, and the severity of his past issues far surpasses Alleybat. I honestly dont know why he hasnt been banned?

That part is pretty obvious.

Nice that the troops got these but they were an afterthought.

Would have been better to make amends to everyone here, then work to repair the reputation, rather than make a single grand gesture (while pocketing a serious personal benefit at the same time).

It's not too much different than anyone who committed an act that would get them in the HOS or Probie list and then dress up like Santa and give out gifts to kids in the hospital while making sure pictures of him got posted online and that he got paid for the work.

Yes you did something nice, doesn't undo what was done, and the underlying motivation doesn't seem to be based 100% in altruism.

And of course the apparently irrestible need to come on here and trumpet his good deed.

Not exactly in the nature of true charity...

How about an apology to all the people who stuck their necks out in defense of the guy, only to have them chopped off when the extent of his dealings came to light?

Nothing like a willing human shield to shelter your reputation behind.

Bit of a stretch to lump him into the same category as these guys. What he did was unquestionably wrong (more than once) but doesn't even come close to the offenses of the guys you mentioned. It's like equating a professional arsonist to someone who carelessly burns down his own house (or lighthouse).

You and I disagree on this, I'll simply leave it at that.

I hadn't planned on answering any of the comments that weren't about the donation, since I don't see a point in arguing over whether my past bad deeds are worse than someone else's. But you raise a very valid point, and I thank you for that.

While I have long since "made amends" in terms of making every single financial transaction right, whether for ridiculously delayed shipments that were eventually refunded in full* or a ridiculously delayed loan repayment that was eventually repaid in full, and while I have thanked those friends who stuck by me, the person, even when they could not abide me, the failed businessman... you are correct. I do owe an apology to those whose own reputations may have suffered by defending mine.

I have no doubt that many of those people have long since left these boards, and I would have no way of reaching all of them individually even if I tried. But I am truly sorry that people whom I considered friends vouched for me at a time when I was not capable of resolving my problems in an adult manner, and suffered damage to their own reputations by defending mine. And I hope that I spend the rest of my life being the kind of person that I was to originally warrant their faith in me.

I do believe LH had cleared his debts as far as books and money owed. He mucked up badly but facts are facts as far as that goes.
