Wizard World Philly

202 posts in this topic

After reading Rickdogg's thread about who's going to San Diego... I figured starting a thread about Wizard World Philly wasn't too early.

So who's going?

Since it's my home turf, and the con is across the street from where I work... I will be there all three days. If anyone needs help with hotels, places to eat, etc. please feel free to PM me.

Also, I'm volunteering to coordinate the forum dinner here. Last year it was at Maggiano's... not sure where this year, but for a large group in May, we probably actually need to plan whereever we're going well advance so the resturaunt can accomodate everyone.

Hopefully, we can also organize going out for drinks one or both of the nights as well.

Of course, Wondercon and Pittsburgh are in between, but May 21st isn't all that far away now!

I'll be there, by hook or crook. Last year was a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing many of the guys again.

Oh; I also agree that the best night for the dinner would be Saturday.

I'm certainly going to try to make it on Saturday.I've never eaten in an Italian rest. in Philly. And after the dinner,Atlantic City is just a half a six-packs drive down the expressway.24 hour casinos, clubs and nudie bars!

Maggiano's is a chain... started in Chicago. If we were going to go with true S. Philly Italian classic we'd go to Ralph's, the second oldest continuously operating Italian resturaunt in the country.

Unfortunately it's a) fairly far away from the convention center and b) I'm not sure it'd be possible for them to handle such a large group on a saturday night.

The food at Maggiano's is good, not great. But since we don't want to pay $30 an entree (i'm sure) it's one compromise we could come to. I'm sure this decision can be made down the road.

I'm not 100% sure about the Hilton being across the st. I know there is a Marriot and a number of other hotels in the area, but I'd have to look into it. Obviously, if they indicate they're across the street on their website, then they are... I just don't recall seeing a Hilton there.

It's cool. I normally don't go to chains when i travel, since there's no real point in it, but with a group this big I'd be cool with anything. It's all about meeting people after all. I was honestly just curious because I recognized the name.
