Okay, here's a good example of amateur color touch with a nice big fat scan - notice the "disappearing" reading crease. Black areas of the spine (especially the thin black line bordering the cover image on most bronze age marvels) are prime candidates for amateur restoration with black ink. This one's obvious...but they get better!

Good, helpful posts Drbanner - not to be forgotten as well is how helpful a peek inside at the spine, etc. of a suspect book can be, when suspicious of color touch.

So true...amateur color touch will often bleed through and be visible from the interior, especially around the staple holes.
