CINCINNATI COMIC EXPO - SEPTEMBER 22 & 23

302 posts in this topic

Are you guys trying to line up any sort of media/tv/film actors/actresses for this show since it is now multiple days? Not to beat a dead horse but I think if you could land a couple key Walking Dead actors that could really help out the overall attendance. I know the two HorrorHound events that went off here in Ohio that having Norman Reedus, Michael Rooker, etc. attend the events were huge draws for each of the shows.

WHILCE PORTACIO SMASHES INTO CINCINNATI!

May 25, 2012

Whilce Portacio launched his career in the comic book industry when Marvel editor Carl Potts offered him an inking job in "Alien Legion" and "Longshot" in 1985. After which, Portacio was handed a penciling job in "Strikeforce: Morituri".

With determination to bring his craft to excellence, Portacio eventually worked his way to the top of Marvel's artist roster. He was even given the chance to create his own character for “X-Men” named Bishop (first appeared in “Uncanny X-Men” # 282 in 1991). Portacio has also worked on "Legion of Night" "The Punisher", "X Factor", "Uncanny X Men", "Heroes Reborn: Iron Man" and "X Force".

Portacio later joined forces with six other high-profile artists to form their own company called Image Comics and "Wetworks" was born. In 2000, Portacio was forced to stop working in the middle of a deadline for Marvel's "X Force" because he fell ill.

Back on his feet after a year, Portacio continued his career via DC/Wildstorm titles such as "Stormwatch", "The Authority", "Wetworks Vol. II", "Batman Confidential" and "Superman/Batman". Portacio came back to Image recently to work on "Spawn" and "Artifacts" at TopCow.

Portacio's "Hulk # 18" with Jeph Loeb marks his return to Marvel. In 2010, he joined Matt Fraction in "Uncanny X-Men" and continued to work on "Incredible Hulk."

Nice! Does Whilce sketch at shows?

I finally booked my room yesterday, so all good to go!

I am pretty sure he does as I see them being posted from time to time. Plus a friend of mine scored one a few years ago.

ROLLOUT OF THE 2012 CINCINNATI COMIC EXPO GUESTS OF HONOR CONTINUE WITH ANNOUNCING "SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING" ARTIST, RICK VEITCH.

6/12/2012

Over an illustrious forty year career, Rick Veitch has written and illustrated fifteen graphic novels of his own and contributed to over a dozen others, collaborating with acknowledged masters of comic book art such as Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, Bryan Talbot, Tommy Lee Edwards and of course, Tom Yeates, John Totleben and S.R. Bissette.

Rick shows no sign of letting up. Building on his early series such as SWAMP THING, THE ONE, THE MAXIMORTAL, BRAT PACK and RARE BIT FIENDS the last decade has seen a string of cutting edge work. In fact, Rick drew John Constantine, who debuted in issue 37 of Saga of the Swamp Thing. Veitch has collaborated with several masters of comic book art. His poetic meditation, CAN'T GET NO, was named one of the Best Books Of 2006 by Publisher's Weekly. Newsday called it “One of the most thoughtful and even satisfying artistic responses to Set. 11 to date".

During the Bush/Cheney years, Rick wrote and drew ARMY@LOVE, a deeply subversive and wildly satiric look at the wars in the Middle East. The series was named one of the Best Of 2008 by The Comics Journal. His recent one-shot from Image Comics, THE BIG LIE, created national headlines. He is currently illustrating the EQUIPMENT FOR LIFE educational comic’s workshop for the University of Quebec. He recently completed a comic’s biography of Kim Dot-Com for WIRED Magazine.

The 2012 Cincinnati Comic Expo will be his first convention appearance in the United States in over a decade!

Excitement continues as the Cincinnati Comic Expo announces their next Guest of Honor is "Saga of the Swamp Thing" artist, John Totleben.

June 13, 2012

John Totleben is probably best known for his work as artist/inker on the now classic mid-1980's horror comic book series Saga of The Swamp Thing, done in collaboration with writer Alan Moore and co-artist/penciller Steve Bissette, and Miracleman: Bk. III/ OLYMPUS, again with Moore. After their stint on SOTST, Bissette & Totleben co-created the horror anthology TABOO. While working on SOTST, he instigated the creation of John Constantine, who continues to be a popular character to this day and somehow even managed to find his way into a Hollywood movie in 2005.

Totleben also worked on several other comic titles including 1963 (with Swamp Thing cohorts Moore, Bissette and Rick Veitch), Vermillion, The Dreaming, The Legend of the Green Flame, Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, and X-Men Unlimited, as well as numerous painted and line art covers for many comics and publishers. He has also won numerous Kirby Awards and an Inkpot Award for his work in comics.

In June of 1986, the artist was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a progressive degenerative disease of the eye. Considered legally blind for the past seventeen years, Totleben still continues to produce art, though at a slower pace than previously.

Please note that John will be signing all weekend but will not be sketching.

John Totleben is attending his first major comic show in over 10 years.
