Why Chicks Cry

http://johnglenntaylor.blogspot.com/2009/06/66-panels-why-chicks-cry.html

They say that into every life a little rain must fall, especially if you are a female trapped in a romance comic. I never read romance comics much, and more's the pity, because I could have learned a lot about the fairer sex, such as what makes them cry. Turns out, pretty much anything...

Headaches

Low self-esteem

Disillusionment

Sudden paralysis

Sudden Rains

Foolish shallow dreams

Snowflakes

Weddings

Darkness

Burning the meatloaf

Indecision

Gaining weight

Realization of ugly truths

Inability to love

Losing a bundle at the dog track

Separation

Finding out Ringo is married

Getting braces caught

Caring too much

Being evicted

Hypothermia

Two-timing

Seasickness

Circus animalsPretenders

Proposals

Knowledge

Chipping a nail

Being psycho

Dating a crying fetishist

Being pitied

Inability to dance

Having an unsightly elbow wart

Identity Crises

Birds

Having weird reflections

People in general

Fear of leaves

Speech impediments

Steve Trevor failing to return your calls

Being wrong

Onions, placed under your pillow by sneaky kid brother

Controlling mothers

Being an artist

Running out of caviar

Loving too much

Constantly being mistaken for someone else

Psychoactive substances

Ants

Typographical errors

Being put in the "Friend Zone"

Being a fool

Sunburns

Being rejected

Car exhaust fumes

Full moons

Chipping two nails

Reading romance comics

Getting knocked up

Pet deaths

Not being able to afford go-go boots

Dating an impotent guy

Failing to pay the water bill, thus incurring a 5% late fee

Guys named Harry

Pipe smoke

Your first hickey

I got this one on a family road trip a few months ago. I had a hard time tracking down a decent copy for light $$, but the effort was worth it: great story, and incredible art by Alex Toth and (for the first half of the story) Doug Wildey:

This is one of my favorites. Toth does great work here. "The Bride of the Falcon" was also reprinted in one of those DC Blue Ribbon digests in the early 80s. In the pre-internet days, that was a tough book to find.

Great books, guys.

Here's my only relatively recent addition:

Sweet! Your picture frame romance books are always super sharp!

According to Mike'sAmazing World of Comics, Ron Wilson is the cover artist. Why do you suppose CGC didn't credit him on the label?

I don't know. But I have noticed that CGC's label notes have gotten more generous with some books over the years. And I think the My Love #20 is the only graded copy. So maybe it's lack of interest.

But I'd guess if it were a Romita cover, it would find its way onto the label.
