'Arrow' Can't Use Deathstroke Again Right Now

Quote

As many know the character made his official DC cinematic universe debut in Justice League, played by actor Joe Manganiello. The actor had long been attached to the character, but this was his first time on the screen. Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently revealed at ACE Comic Con how the movies affect Arrow's characters.

"These are DC's characters, we're just renting them ya know, so we use the characters that they tell us we can use when we can use them, and we work around whatever limitations that places us," Guggenheim told Discussing Film.

When asked about Deathstroke specifically, who is played on the show by Manu Bennett, Guggenheim revealed the character is currently off the table.

"Yeah, I think you know as a result we've been on and off," Guggenheim said. "For a time they were saying 'you can't use Deathstroke', and that changed and we were able to have Slade Wilson back on the show, and now we're back to 'you can't use him'. They're working on the feature film version, it really is sort of now that you've got obviously Slade, spoiler alert, Deathstroke appears at the end of the Justice League movie."

While it meant that Slade is off limits (at least for awhile), Guggenheim and Bennett both like what Joe is doing.

"Yeah, it was a great scene," Guggenheim said. "I think Joe is a great actor. You know Manu's been very encouraging of his work and, you know, there's these intervals, and we try and take advantage of our opportunities when we have them."

New 'Arrow' Set Video Shows Black Siren Following Quentin Lance

Quote

Arrow might currently be on mid-season hiatus, but a new set video could tease a pretty interesting altercation that's to come.

Canadagraphs recently shared video of an Arrow scene that filmed earlier this month. In it, Laurel Lance/Black Siren (Katie Cassidy) is shown following behind Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne), who is talking to someone or something on his phone. Laurel then stops in her tracks, before hiding in a nearby doorway.

What's most interesting about this video is the fact that Laurel is walking around in broad daylight in normal street clothes, as opposed to her Black Siren outfit or some sort of other disguise. This is a conundrum that Arrow fans have been waiting to see for a while, seeing as Laurel's Earth-1 doppelganger was a pretty notable figure in Star City.

"She looks exactly like Laurel Lance, she is Laurel Lance," co-star Stephen Amell pointed out earlier this year. "Laurel Lance is the most famous dead person in Star City, so eventually, at some point, if she is reintroduced into public life, how do we unpack that? I'm excited for that. That's the dynamic I think could be interesting."

Depending on exactly why Laurel is stalking Lance, this scene could have a whole other layer to it as well. Arrow's mid-season finale saw the pair's dynamic reach a new point, after Laurel kidnapped Lance as leverage against Team Arrow. In the process, the two bonded over their shared rituals for Laurel's birthday, despite the fact that they hailed from different Earths.

I liked how near the mid-season they were showing some form of connecting between Laurel and Quentin. At least, I hope that is where they are taking this.

'Arrow' Renewed for Season 7

Quote

The CW has renewed Arrow for its seventh season, ensuring that the series will survive whatever Ricardo Diaz and his posse of villains can throw at it this year.

The move was telegraphed recently when network president Mark Pedowitz said that he expected all of The CW's current DC superhero shows (Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow) to be renewed for the 2018-2019 season.

"At the moment, it's a little too soon," Pedowitz said. "We're noted for announcing at winter TCA that we're picking up shows, we just weren't ready to do that yet. A couple more weeks [and] we'll probably get around to it. I'm pretty confident we'll see them all back."

Next up is another recurring character in the form of “Daniel Porter”, who they are looking for a Caucasian actor in his mid-30s. He is an intelligent and homosexual technological entrepreneur whose creativity has given him a huge success as a businessman. But having gone through tragic losses in his life is something he hides from the people around him, thus struggling with shaping new relationships with others.

While there are chances that “Daniel” is simply an original character, we still have a DC speculation on which character he could be. For many years, fans have wanted to see Ted Kord a.k.a. one of the Blue Beetles in the DC Universe, given the existence of Kord Industries on Earth-1. We’ve even gotten mentions of Ted a few times without seeing him onscreen.

When Season 3 was casting new roles, they also had a mystery character named “Daniel” who was described quite similarly to this version. That “Daniel”, who was later revealed to be Ray Palmer a.k.a. The Atom (played by Brandon Routh on Legends of Tomorrow), was almost described the same way as this Daniel.

There were heavy speculations that this was going to be Ted before it was revealed that it was Ray. What if this time we’re actually getting Ted? While we’ve seen in the past that Ted has been off-limits for the Arrowverse, it has been a few years now and the rules may be different now. Should this potentially be Ted, it wouldn’t surprise us if they may leave out the Blue Beetle aspect of his character – for now – and having him be gay could potentially mean that Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) is getting a new love interest.

A new Arrowverse TV series set in Star City 2040 would be the best of all possible spin-offs from Arrow. The first of The CW's DC series will come to an end with season 8 later this year, but the world can live on by continuing the story that started in Arrow season 7's flashforwards.

Few could have predicted what Arrow would become over the course of a decade when it first aired in 2012. Dismissed by many as a made-for-TV version of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy, the show was successful enough to inspire a number of spin-offs, such as The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. These shows joined together to form a shared multiverse that became popularly known as the Arrowverse. It could be argued that had it not been for Arrow's success, the wide variety of more mature live-action comic book shows currently in production would not exist.

Despite being renewed for an abbreviated season 8 heading into the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, Arrow season 7 seemed to largely reveal the majority of Team Arrow's fate through a series of flashforwards to the year 2040. It was here that William Clayton, Oliver Queen's son from a one-night-stand in college, attempted to make contact with his father's vigilante friends for the first time in two decades after receiving a strange coded message. His quest for answers and closure brought him to a dystopian Star City, where the police and local government were effectively owned and operated by a powerful corporation called Galaxy One and vigilantism was punishable by death.

Along with the vigilantes Arsenal and Black Canary, William also began working with his childhood friend Zoe Ramirez (now the new Black Canary), a government agent named Connor Hawke and Blackstar - a pit-fighter in the Star City underground, who was ultimately revealed to be Mia Smoak, William's half-sister. Under the tutelage of the elder heroes, the four young guns created a new Team Arrow, saving Felicity Smoak from the clutches of Galaxy One and Star City itself from total destruction as part of a scheme to gentrify the city with a bombing. The Arrow season 7 finale offered the perfect set-up for a spin-off series, as the mentors agreed to fade into the shadows and leave the protection of their city up to the next generation of heroes.

Last year, the CW’s Arrowverse annual crossover event introduced Batwoman, played by Ruby Rose. This time, the producers of the DC franchise on the CW are planning a big stunt involving one of DC’s most recognizable superheroes, Superman. Two actors who have played the Man of Steel, Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh, will both portray him in different time frames. The news is expected to be revealed at Comic-Con.

Both Hoechlin and Routh are already members of the Arrowverse — Hoechlin recurs as Superman on Supergirl, while Routh plays Ray Palmer/The Atom on DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow, a character he first introduced on Arrow.

Routh, who played Superman in the 2006 Bryan Singer-directed feature Superman Returns, will portray both Clark Kent and his Legends Of Tomorrow character. And as Superman, both he and Hoechlin will suit up, putting on the iconic cape.
