I don't know if this has been done before (I don't think so), but what are your favorite Centaur (including pre-Centaurs such as Cheslers & Ultem etc) covers from 1936-1942.

I know we all will disagree somewhat which is why I was curious to know. hm

I'm guessing a top 20 would include almost all the same covers from most of us (After all there are not that many Centaurs). (shrug)

Anyway...this would be my top twenty (in order from #1 (best) to #20).

#1 Amazing Mystery Funnies 2/5

#2 Amazing Mystery Funnies 2/10

#3 Funny Pages 35

#4 Amazing Man 22

#5 Amazing Mystery Funnies 2/4

#6 Funny Pages 4/1

#7 Funny Pages 38

#8 Detective Picture Stories 5

#9 Amazing Man 7

#10 Funny Pages 3/7

#11 Funny Pages 37

#12 Keen Detective Funnies 3 (10)

#13 Amazing Man 13

#14 Arrow 1

#15 Amazing Mystery Funnies 2/2

#16 Keen Detective Funnies 2/6

#17 Funny Pages 36

#18 Comic Pages 1

#19 Star Ranger Funnies 17

#20 Arrow 3

honorable mentions....(OK, I cheated a little)

Keen Detective Funnies 23

Detective Eye 2

Star 5

Arrow 2

Amazing Man 14

yeah, I'm sure I left out a lot (the Ryan covers come to mind), but these are the one I like the best currently... :headbang:

Anybody else have a top 20??

For me the following:

Amazing Man #6 & #22

Amazing Mystery Funnies v2 #4, v2 #5 & v2 #10

Keen Detective Funnies v1 #10, #20 & #23

Funny Pages v3 #7, v4 #1, #35 & #38

That's 12 anyway.

Not as easy as I thought it would be. First 8 or so were fairly easy (for me), but after that it was very tough going - tomorrow would be a slightly different list, I'm sure! Not all are truly Centaurs, but thought they'd be okay for this exercise:

1. Amazing Mystery Funnies V2#4

2. Funny Pages #40

3. Funny Pages V4#1

4. Amazing Mystery Funnies V2#10

5. Keen Detective Funnies #20

6. Amazing Man #22

7. Amazing Mystery Funnies V2#5

8. Funny Pages V3#7

9. Amazing Mystery Funnies #4

10. Western Picture Stories #1 (Comics Magazine)

11. Star Comics #8 (Ultem)

12. Detective Picture Stories #5 (Comics Magazine)

13. Keen Detective Funnies V2#7

14. Funny Picture Stories V2#7

15. Funny Pages #38

16. Amazing Mystery Funnies V2#7

17. Funny Pages V2#12

18. Amazing Mystery Funnies V2#2

19. Funny Picture Stories #5 (Comics Magazine)

20. Keen Detective Funnies #10

First two have always been my favorites - not sure why. Many on list were in Richard O'Brien's book, so were very early "grails". List is very much skewed towards AMF and FP - my two favorite "Centaur" titles.

I certainly understand (and agree with) PreHero's favoring AMF and FP, but I also have a soft spot for KDF.

While KDF 20 is tops for the run IMHO, these other two also would be potential candidates:

Speaking of Star Comics, I think this is D ick Ryan at his best!

BB, I'm glad you posted that - very first Larson I ever purchased (more than 3 decades ago), and a very cool cover.

This issue or KDF 3/1 (Joe Simon cover) should probably be on my Honorable Mention list.
