Does anyone know what the last year was that Sotheby's held a

Comic Book Auction? I went to one in 1990 any really enjoyed it.

Has Heritage Auction taken over this market?

It appears that the last time they held a comic auction was in 1999. You can see the covers to their comic catalogues here.

I was able to find some info on a 2000 comic auction but nothing beyond that, however Jerry Weist was Sotheby's consultant from 1990-2001 and so there may have even been one in 2001, however I was unable to find any info on it.

It was no latter than 2001, but for some reason I remember it being 2000.

I think this would then have been the last one on June 17, 2000.

I remember the one in 1990...they had a lot of original ARCHIE artwork

that the family put up, and was really getting some very high bids.

It was a real class event!

Ask and ye shall receive:

Sotheby's First Bande Dessinée - Comics Auction To Be Held July 4, 2012 in Paris, France

I'm guessing this sale will be mostly European BD comics and art, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sotheby's is testing the waters here and that a successful sale could lead to more comics/BD offerings down the line. :wishluck:
