I am selling the following books via a web site I am developing. I refuse to pay eBay for the privilege, so I am counting on word of mouth to help. So, if you can buy these books---PLEASE DO. If not--PLEASE TELL SOMEONE WHO MIGHT. I am doing this to assist with financial issues with my family and to assist my mother with past due bills owed to the FEDs on past due taxes--which didn't become apparent to me until after the passing of her spouse Alan.

The web site, when available, will have HI-RES pics, prices, and integration into PayPal. It will be cheesy but functional. I want to expedite this.

straight purchase is my current thought.

 

I may entertain auction style, but that would mean involving those eBay folks I could put these on CL, but then the 10% cost would drive up my price further, and in many cases, I will be taking a loss on books I overpaid for. I'm looking at the bottom line price for all of the books, hence they should be priced to move--maybe not very quickly, but quickly enough.

ESTIMATE LAUNCH TIME: TBD

 

Yes, sorry about the constant go/stop chatter. Right now, I am going to spend time scanning, scanning, scanning and selecting the cheapest (free) PayPal integration shopping cart software to integrate with my web site URL. Currently having a problem finding a solution to inventory management--I don't want two people to grab the same book at once, and I need to book to remove itself once purchased or place a SOLD bitmap on the item. I know of plenty of shopping cart software, but I don't want this to be a drawn out development effort. If anyone knows of one that can solve the above problem free or close to it, PM me.

 

Once that is done, expect a post here to indicate when web site goes *LIVE*.

 

BTW, this site will be temporary for the sale of my items. My web site URL will be used for other services in this industry I am currently evaluating.

Try OScommerce. It's free. Does Paypal, calculates shipping, etc.

Sterling, just a few thoughts that I had that may be of interest to you before you list all your books. You seem to be against sharing some of the profit with Ebay. I understand that. Yeah those fees do add up and I hate to pay them also. However, it's not as if you are not getting a service for those fees. The thing is, you are offering alot of very nice and potentially very expensive books all at about the same time with a limited amount of exposure: forum members and word of mouth. As compared to the entire world that would see your books on Ebay. The thing to think about is that there are many people that would like to buy many but can probably only afford a few or just one (depending on prices, of course). So if there is bidding involved, there will only be a fraction of potential bidders in the "do it yourself method" and not enough people to drive up the prices. Plus, and you know how some of these bronze horror books have taken off recently, you may realize some outrageous prices on Ebay which are much greater than you may price them "buy it now" on your own website. And on Ebay you can start them at this same price anyway, or even a couple bucks more than you would on your own, to make up for the fees. PLUS it would save you all the headache of setting it up on your own.

 

Bottom line: I really believe you will make much more money on your collection, as well as saving time and hassle, to list as normal on Ebay with the same minimum bids you would have listed on your own website. Many more bidders translates into many more dollars for you and your mom. Good luck. ------Sid

It's a great move by Sterling. List 'em at set prices on his website, some will sell to forum members & lurkers (a ton of them out there). He saves on fees & whatever is left goes to Ebay. What's he got to lose by listing them on his site first & then Ebay second? Assuming he eventually throws them on the 'Bay.
