How much does a water stain decrease grade?

31 posts in this topic

This book is in decent shape except for the stain on the bottom of the back cover. It does not affect the interior at all. Any idea how much the grade will be decreased by a stain such as this?

"If that book was flawless outside of a small stain, it'd be much higher then VG+..have you seen the books at VG+?"

Obviously you haven't.

One major defect can easily take an otherwise perfect book down to VG+, and that is by no means a 'small' stain.

It is, if it's only on the back cover like he stated. Here's a VG- that's beat up AND has a big stain on the back. Using your argument..if it just had the stain and was otherwise flawless it would be a VG+.. Cap 4

So all those flaws on the book only knock it down to VG-? Don't think so. frown.gif

Well you can't even get into the realm of F/VF, IMO.. and in the other guys opinion if you ahve a small stain and the book is otherwise flawless you can't have better then a VG+. So take it however you want..but it knocks it down a lot.

Cannot see a stain on that book anywhere near as obtrusive as the one on ariarch's book.

I stand by my grade, and if you want to pay Fine prices for books with water stains on the cover, then good luck to you.
