Thanks. Actually, my scanner is terrible. I figured I'd try using Photo Bucket. Took me a few tries, but I finally got it. That's just how it posted here. I don't know why the text is so blurry. Book is sweet though. Just came today, and it's big. Won't fit in my CGC box. I wonder if they make magazine sized boxes. There are a few other Savage Sword books I would like with Red Sonja covers, and I'll need a place to put them.

In many cases it's even better. Some of the modern books are great, but with all the variants there's quite a few stinkers too. I think Lucio Parrillo is probably the only one doing this style right. Joe Jusko is great too. His cover for #50 is amazing. Many of the newest issues leave a lot to be desired though. They've got it down to only two covers now, but the art is really lacking. Lucio Parrillo is doing the Queen Sonja covers though, and they are superb. The one thing you have to give Dynamite credit for is their interior art. It really is a joy to actually read the comics.

Well this is a very very complicated topic

Marvel DID print some books with a Whitman label

But basicaly Whitman was a reseller who packaged the books in bags for sale in stores (marvel)

So its safe to say 99.99% of the diamond labled books were a marvel direct sale book or a second print for distabution through secondary meens ?

The internet and ebay seems to lable everything Whitman and is mostly wrong ?

There seems no extra value to the books and no exact list I can find ?

So because the comic in the plastic bag had a diamond lable dosnt make it a Whitman only the bag is Whitman ?

The printing Whitman or a Whitman lable HAS to be on the book to be a Whitman varient just being in the bag dosnt do it ??

Now I have to figure out if theses early Direct Editions Variants are second prints

It's not so much where you buy it. Although that might be part of it. It's what you're trying to do with it after you buy it raw. If you're shooting for a 9.8 white pages it's going to be tough. You could have it pressed into a 9.8 maybe, but the page quality is going to be another issue. Both the above mentioned dealers have been selling long enough to know what passes for what, but even then you have to get through the CGC gauntlet. We've both seen 9.8's that may not be as nice as some others, and 9.6's that look flawless. It's a tough call because you have to ask is it worth going through all that to get a 9.6? Which is basically a death sentence for most bronze books. Especially Red Sonja. There are some 9.8's and 9.6's that have been sitting on eBay for years now. It's a gamble at best. Just because a website says it's a 9.8 doesn't mean CGC will say it is. Of course you could get lucky and find one, but then you have to pay to get it pressed, to be graded, shipping, insurance, etc. Will it be worth it after all of that? That's the choice we have to make in this hobby nowadays. Why can't we go back to folding them in half, and carrying them around in our back pockets to show all our friends?
