Wow. Joe Kubert is gone. RIP.

I was deeply saddened to read this news on waking this morning

I was very lucky to have spent quality time with Joe when he visited Australia for the Supanova shows a couple of years back and have fond memories of taking him to the Maritime Museum of WA for research on a book he was doing.

He also spent an afternoon at my home with Gabe Bridwell from his school and looked through my original art collection while we chatted about his work and the industry. The last time I saw him was when I visited him at the school last year where he showed me pages from a new Sgt. Rock mini-series he was working on (devoted to the origins of each of the soldiers from Easy Company) and he took me to lunch at a local retro style diner.

I will always treasure his gift of an Enemy Ace illustration and I will miss him deeply.......

I had the pleasure of teaching at his school for a year back in the nineties. The best part of that job was at lunch time all the faculty got together for lunch and most of the time Joe was present. I'll never forget his warmth and kindness towards all of his teachers and remember sitting and listening to his stories.

Always a gentleman, always pleasant . The world is a little less nice without him !
