staple placement question

Hello.

 

I have a question and have read many articles but I would like to get the answer straight from CGC experts for the sake of clarity.

 

Does staple placement negatively affect the grade a comic receives. I have seen several comics that are had sharp corners, no breaks in color, no chipping, no spine rolls with white pages that have been graded lower than I would expect. When I look and examine the books the common denominator is off center staple placement where the staples were about 1/8 - 1/4 inch off center either on the front or back of the book.

 

Please advise.

It could affect the grade of the comic in extreme cases, like if it affects the ability to read the story. However an 1/8th" wouldn't affect it much, if at all.
