You guys over-hyped the Avengers movie

160 posts in this topic

i didnt like the movie much either. felt it lacked a story and it never felt like the heroes were ever in danger even though thats what they were shooting for. also, why did loki just become an insufficiently_thoughtful_person by the end of the film. i guess it was ok for an action film....meh ill pass on the next one

In the name of all that is holy, can nothing knock Avatar and Titanic out of the # 1 and 2 spots? :frustrated:

Not until Snooki and Honey Boo Boo team up with Gimli and Captain Jack Sparrow against the Decepticons and Voldemort.

Revenge of the Dark Pirates: Fellowship of the Inbred Shore People?

I hope it's in Imax 3D.

Both of those movies were incredible pieces of film-making and are vastly superior to The Avengers, in my mind.

Is it wrong to applaud when the ship finally sinks and ending credits roll? I would rather watch Lost in Space the movie than either of those movies. Oh wait I have not seen the blue film yet. :)

I just watched it so I could see Thanos in the credits. :)

:applause: +1

Best part. I've had some repeat viewings since it came out on blu-ray, and listenend to it while I've worked about 5 times on top of that - every time the end credits roll, I stop what I'm doing to take in the Thanos sequence.

You know, I really enjoyed the heck out of the movie, but agree it has plot holes that Whedon should have noticed when he was cutting it down.

Loki's desires to test and manipulate the "new team" for his amusement should have been clearer, as should his ability to enhance their anger, etc. Hulk couldn't control himself on the helicarrier but could later on, outside of Loki's influence. Not clear in the movie.

Also not clear is why Banner returns, but one of the deleted scenes, a conversation between him and the janitor (in which the janitor says he can use his motorcycle) clears that up OK.

Given the genre of the film (action), I though Johannson and Renner were fine. More character insights and humor than I would have expected, even though the final battle ends up a bit "been there done that".

[font:Times New Roman]I caught the Avengers twice and liked it very much both times (saw it first in the UK, then later back in the U.S.)!

Granted, there are plot holes, but they never appear serious enough to rise to the level of continuity glitches.

What makes the Avengers great is the snappy dialogue, superb character development and perfect pacing.

The fact that an action flick cast with complicated characters conveying wild mood swings and strong personalities works at all is a miracle in and of itself.[/font] (thumbs u

Well I quite enjoyed it :) Your points are totally valid Andrew but nontheless I was entertained. I'm simple I guess. (shrug)

I only go to the cinema in summer to watch a few explosive, in-your-face blockbusters. In 3D. The Avengers fulfilled this simple criterion admirably. Any film with subtlety or coherent, deep, intellectual, thoughtful dialogue and story, well, I can wait until it eventually appears on television and watch it for free. Also, as a Joss Whedon and Thanos fan, I thought The Avengers rocked.

Well, it should be the opposite, unless we have to think what’s valuable comes for free and what’s expendable needs to be paid. Or am I missing something? ;)

I watched the Avengers 6 times and enjoyed it each time. I can't wait for Avengers 2. :cloud9:

I'm glad they didn't cater to the comic snobs, because nobody would watch it then.

And your proof of this would be...?

It was fun, but Jesus Christ guys.

How was the Hulk suddenly able to control himself? Why did he go from almost ripping Scarlet's butt in half to teaming up with the group? How did he know to go to Manhattan for the final battle after being dropped in the middle of nowhere? Why did Thor sit in that Hulk-prison thingy with his thumb up his arse, right up until it was about to hit the ground? What exactly is the extent of Loki's powers? Who the heck was that alien race that was helping him? What was their motivation? Why did Black Widow and Hawkeye suck so bad? Why does the actor who plays Hawkeye have big biceps but no shoulders? Why did they make Captain America's costume so cheesy, and why did he never take it off, not even on the Shield carrier?

You almost sound like the 12 year old wads on Xbox Live. Not enough racism and homophobia though.

Yes, because they've made so many superhero comicbook movies faithful to the source material that statistics show that non comicbook fans stay away in droves. Next time you try and give me a tug at least ask politely first :eyeroll:
