While back I had an AF #15 double cover (3.5 outside 5.5 inside) - sold it about 15 years ago and have never seen it offered anywhere since.

Anyone see this issue recently? - just curious

I seen one sell on ebay that was CGC graded 5.5 with off-White pages was thinking the outside cover was a 4.5 and it sold in maybe 2002 for a little over 5K "might be wrong on some points it was a long time ago" was this your book? Really wish I had bought it but back then the most I had ever spent on a comic was just a few hundred and I thought the price was crazy, boy was I ever wrong. You would not happen to have any pictures of it would you, I did save pictures but my old computer crashed and I lost all data on it. I have never seen the book since hope it still has the Double Cover and was not dismantled or worked on.  :-)

Yes, that was it!

It sold on EBAY, but buyer never paid - then someone contacted me about a month later, and offered me close to the final price.

FWIW, I felt that both covers were over graded (even by today's standards) - but I wish I didn't sell it either!

I too wondered if the outside cover was removed and put on a cover-less copy.

Interestingly, I purchased it raw from the original owner, and I was the first one he showed it to since he had purchased it (or so he said)... if only he had kept it in newstand shape I could be retired now!!!

Oh shucks!  You would keep it before the price shot through the ceiling.

Let's call CGC and describe it to them. See what they will say.

This is a great specimen for one of the grading contests held here on these boards.

Hey fellow double cover collectors.

Keep an eye out for fake (married) double covers out there!

Now that they are becoming more popular, and the prices are reflecting that, there are some unscrupulous sellers “creating” double covers.

I purchased and returned one recently. Look closely at how the covers line up (the cut and centering should be identical), and look for original staple indentations that were left after the staples were replaced.

You are saying that is a real one though, correct? I suspect so, since it is a pedigree?

Sorry for the noob question, but I don't know what an unslabbed pedigree is supposed to look like...

Is the "gold seal" or what not on the inside? If I'm seeing those pics correctly :wishluck:

No, I'm hinting that it's not an actual double cover.

The covers don't line up at all. If it was legit, the cover cut should be exactly the same, as they followed one another off the printing press.

Also, the staple holes are all jacked up. Now I guess it's not a fraud, as the book does indeed come with two covers, but one of them has been added after it was printed.

This 'Pedigree' isn't recognized by CGC. I'm not referencing the legitimacy of the Pedigree - I don't know enough about it. The gold seal is just something they made up.

Hope that helps.

That helps a lot actually! I remember at my first ever con, I think 2014/2015, I talked to voldermort about getting some books graded after being signed etc. I asked them about the process and they mentioned putting a sticker. I came out more confused than ever lol

So i did not get my books slabbed, and now I have a bunch of raw sigs....my point being that this "gold seal" might "come from a realm of truth" or just be plain nonsense.....

But thanks for giving me a sense of what is happening :foryou:

Yeah, Voldy “ authenticates” signatures that were not witnessed and slabs them. Even old signatures from creators long passed.

CGC does not.

Voldy also “authenticate” and grade raw signed books. (I believe they place a sticker on the Mylar with these).

CGC does not.

Just received this back from on-site grading at Baltimore Comic Con.  Every graded multi cover I have seen lists a separate grade for each cover.  This does not.  Is this a mistake or does CGC not break it out when both covers grade the same?  I didn’t catch it when I picked up my books at the end of the day.  Thought I would ask here before I call CGC.
