Theycallmearchie and I have been friends for a number of years and usually go to the Chicago conventions together.  I've collected Archies (and other comics) since the late 1970s.  We each need around 50 Archie comics featuring the main cast, though he has the edge due to his early Peps.

I used to work in a comic book store, though we didn't get many early Archies in collections.

Here are the first four Jughead issues from my collection, which I picked up about 25 years ago.

Is Juggie 2 the toughest of these?  Seems as if you don't see many of that issue compared with the other three.

I think #2 and #3 are each harder to get than #1 and #4.  I've had my copies for 25 years so I don't actively look for them, but I definitely see more copies of #1 at conventions than the others, though part of that may be because it is a #1 issue and is seen as more desirable

That copy of 2 is beautiful. Hard to find them in good condition for sure! Congrats.

I guess as an eBay seller, if you live by the BIN, you sometimes die by the BIN.  Seems crazy that they wouldn't have researched the book a little more.  But maybe they couldn't imagine that any Archie comic would sell for a lot.

If the seller knew it was a "classic cover" how did he not know it was worth more than $78?!?!?

Hey, did anybody here just snapped up this copy of Archie 46 from Heritage:

Golden Age (1938-1955):Humor, Archie Comics #46 (Archie, 1950) CGC VF- 7.5 White pages....

I was totally planning to raised my bid for this book when the auction got closer to its end earlier today.

Ended up forgetting all about it as I must have been totally tripped out watching that super weird and definitely oddball Doom Patrol series on TV.

Since this seems to be the most active Archie thread and it has grown to include a bit more than just Archie #1-10, I thought it would be a good place to share some new items. Fellow boardie 143ksk decided to part with a few pieces of Archie original art.  Although the artwork is for modern books, two of the pieces were for the relaunch of Betty and Veronica in 2016 so at least they're Archie #1's.

First is Andrew Pepoy's variant cover for the New England Comics variant of Betty and Veronica #1.  The 2nd is the Andy Price variant of B&V #1 and the third piece is the Stephanie Buscema cover for Archie #652.

I was thrilled to be able to add these to my collection and a big thanks to Steve for letting them go.

Ah, this is just the thread I needed.  After watching Riverdale since it started, this Summer I started getting Archie comics.  Started reading the current stuff and really liked it, and then grabbed some random GA.  I amazed at how cheap most of the non-keys are.

Anyway, here is my meager GA collection.  I was not buying for grade, just to have and read:

71651159-2418099838436371-39877113142386

71279811-447546432546781-591063147188584

So my question Archie collectors, do you just focus on the main books like Archie, Pep, B&V, or do you dive into the other titles?  Its very easy to find SA/Bronze titles in dollar boxes and fill a bag, so I have found myself with a big stack of the spinoff titles:

72188878-1341125802718827-73633488362841

71562089-1040160819524666-36031682850439

Just looking for some advice since it appears all these titles run hundreds and hundreds of issues.

Just have fun.  Explore some different titles.  Buy what you like.  You will eventually probably narrow your focus.

My initial focus was to get Archie 1-10 & 50, but then I started seeing SO many other awesome covers like 13, 68, 46, 48, 49.  Then I discovered Betty & Veronica 40 & 41.  Then I discovered Ginger comics, and PEP, and Laugh. Seriously there's SO much to like with Archie Comics.  I'm glad Riverdale sucked you in to collecting the comics.  I hope there's more like you who watched the show and are now collecting.
