I wanna start chasing Marvel 2nd prints...

I would agree that ASMs in the 500s are too late. Personally I would not include anything above #441 (my personal end for Marvel copper is where the original series ended around 1996 IIRRC).

I looked at the list, thanks for doing that!

I noticed that the list contained both the regular Marvel 2nd prints and books that were produced by other entities (Shan Lon, So Much Fun Inc, etc). Are those truly considered 2nd prints? For me, I like to chase the later printings that Marvel actually did, and consider the other comics to be in a different class (like a promotional item or something). Should we consider separating them, or at least denoting the different classes of printings? Not trying to tell anyone how to collect, but I also prefer not to look for books that aren't really in my focus.

EDIT: Same with the comics that came with Marvel Legends figures. Cool, great to collect (I have many), but not what I would consider a true 2nd print.

Well I notated the two books in there, that weren't true 2nd prints, so as to let people know whether they were interested in chasing them or not.

X-Men #221, 248, 268, 270, 275, 281, 282, 303 (Pressman)

There was also a Pressman 297 and 307. There is a no logo copy of 302 that is likely a second print, but it's not indicated. There is a reprint to 245 that came along in 93 in a figure.

Not completely on topic, but I think if anywhere, this is the place to find an answer to this:

GI Joe #21 has well known, easy to find 1st and 3rd printings. I have never seen, heard of, or spoken to someone who can even confirm the existence of a second printing. This doesn't make sense to me, that a second printing wouldn't exist.

Does anyone know if a #21 second print even exists?

Here is that ASM #101 2nd print (a complete b**** to find above VF, I've been trying).

ASM101-2nd.jpg

Isn't this a reprint and not a 2nd printing? If not, please school me.

You know, technically it might be a reprint. If it is a 2nd print it came about 20 years late. Not sure how to split the hairs on this one, but good question. It'd be interesting to see one in a slab to see what CGC calls it, but not sure if any are slabbed.

EDIT: It is dated to 1992. There are 13 slabbed, six 9.8 copies (I'd love to snag one) and CGC does call it a second print.

that just seems wrong. can that mean all the books that came with the action figures can be second prints too? I don't know how to explain it, but I see a difference in a reprint and a second print, just my opinion

What does CGC put on labels for the Marvel Legends books? Surely these have been slabbed. I'd bet they get listed as reprints as opposed to 2nd prints.

As for the ASM #101, it was a later printing of the book done by the same publisher. While it came 20 years later I can live with it as a 2nd print.

Okay, this thread has inspired me to go ahead and great a gallery over at the STL galleries for these later Copper printings. I put the print number, year published and the color difference for easy reference. Let me know of any corrections. There are several missing because I just didn't know how to identify the different prints or they looked the same to me (Nam #1). If you have one to add either post it here or pm me the scan and I'll add it right away. Here is the linky- http://stlcomics.com/cover_gallery/categories.php?cat_id=544

That's right; forgot about that one. It's a Wolverine cover, but it's the 90's X-Men series (issue #11).

Awesome list! I totally forgot I had the X-Men 248 2nd print. And, in all my years of collecting, I don't think I've ever seen the Hulk #393 2nd print. That book came out when I was around 11 or so but I don't remember ever seeing that silver cover.

This is very cool (worship)

For the pressmans, the first 9.6 297 to hit the census, and highest at the time, was mine (since upgraded). Could be that the original owner wasn't truthful, but I was told that issue came out of a game (wasn't a mail-in). I had bought it from a non-comic collector.

I read up on them and saw a few sites where there was speculation that the 297 was released with the game first in a very small amount because pressman was concerned with being able to get them on the shelves before X-Mas in 1992.

As they increased production after the initial release, they added the 303's and finally the 307's. There were mail-aways, so I'm not sure if that's accurate, because they have to fit in the overall production somewhere. Could have been that the owner of my first 297 was mixed up. It could have also been that the mail-away cards could have been put in when production overran the comic stock on hand (before the 303 and 307?)

Oh and Metarog, I was also looking at your list for Marvel discount books, and the Hulk #55 pictured isn't the actual discount issue. I have one that has a $.25 price in a circle like the X-Men issues.

The one Metarog has posted is the variant (think it's called the newstand variant).

The regular issue looks like this:
