Anthony Castrillo is a liar and a cheat.

I have a story that sums the whole thing up.

A few years ago on the Byrne board, someone commissioned JB to do a drawing. He doesn't charge up front and if you don't like what he's done you don't lose a dime. So the guy who commissioned him decided he didn't like it...end of story right? Some time passes and an Anthony Castrillo commission that looks like it had been light boxed off of a copy / printout of the rejected JB drawing showed up on the original buyers CAF page. The buyer was outed on the boards and if IIRC AC claimed no knowledge of the prior illustration. Total BS as someone layed one on top of the other via Photoshop and it was a near perfect match.

Just sayin'

Links?

This is all from memory, but it happened. I remember the term "art thief" being thrown around and a lot of butthurt.

I found the link...thank Google:

I don't ever throw this word around, but that thread is epic!

My favorite part was AC playing the victim.

Sorry for the "spoiler", I assumed you had gotten all the way through it :(

Maybe its time we start to list exactly how many commissions are outstanding, just to get a scope of what's left to be done?

You'd do better to list all the other comic artists that'd do the exact thing Anthony has done. Artists take on commissions when the "real" paying jobs are slow. When the real income comes along, they are usually slammed meeting a schedule and don't have time to do the small jobs they took to get them through the lull.

To those who work by the hour rather than by the completed job, the mindset and of a freelancer is alien. The problem was paying him up front. You help him a little financially when he could use the money, and now he's more concerned with the next set of bills, not whether you get your art. His survival instinct is good in the short term time frame. His reputation and perceived integrity might not be holding up so well.

No worries.

The way that went down is pretty unbelievable.

The following responses pretty much confirm what the OP has been saying about him:

Ok I read the thread, yes I am at fault, yes im an individual_without_enough_empathy, ,

whatever you think.

For the record I drew the piece and was paid, I did not have artists ethics

rule book out and missed the part on intellectual property and proper

etiquette.

As i pointed out in a another thread, i made sure that the art was

tagged and signed as MY recreation and a duplicateo of JBs original, if

you see the parts that werent

cropped you would know that.

And i'd like to add that Mr.Byrne has been a great influence and has been

and still is an idol of mine,if i in any way have i offended him personally

i hope he accepts my sincerest apologies.

Oh and if anyone wants to call me something without knowing all the

facts please do it to my face.:)

mac

John Byrne corrects him and says he traced it:

I stand corrected, i TRACED the piece.

Lesson learned.

mac

Followed soon after by this post:

In other words, if i knew that tracing the piece would insult anyone, offend

anyone, break laws even. I WOULD NOT HAVE DONE IT.

Well, you boys play nice, i got a dying father to take care of.

John, just ban me cause i doubt ill come around here again.

All my best,

mac

If I were a member of his family, I'd be pretty nervous by now. Seems that whenever he gets in a jam, someone drops dead.

But after saying that, he makes another half dozen posts, complaining that the thread is still going on. :)

So... Are refunds off the table?

If it were me, I would just refund everyone and move on.

They are off the table because AC refuses to administer them.
