$12,500. It didn't sell, of course.

It's about a $3,500 book in my opinion. No more than $5,000 in an optimal situation.

Yea that $12,500 is nuts tho.

The latest addition to my collection arrived today after months of delay due to show cancellations by the artist and other unforeseen issues that were out of everyone's control. Always good to see a book retain its grade, especially at this level! (Thanks to my facilitator on this one - Doug Peters). Here I add Jonboy Meyers - an artist with a short run on the title. Even though he had an interesting take on the character, I never did warm up to the "Venom" tongue that was pushed during this time period. Still psyched to add him to the fold as it documents a special time in the series.

PS - I'm thinking about consolidating my Spawn collection by selling off some of the one-shots, mini-series, TPBs, etc. I've always been much more interested in completing the regular run, but there was a time when I bought everything. With nearly 400 slabs, space is becoming an issue. I'll never sell the regular run or variants (at least not until I /want/ to)...but I'm thinking some of these books can go. Bills are rising with the new baby around. I think it might be a win-win. Stay tuned...

AND THEN THERE WERE FIVE...

Just finished trade negotiations for three of the Spawn issues on my want list.

That leaves me with only FIVE ISSUES before completing my Spawn registry set (regular title plus all official variants) in CGC 9.8 or above!

I'm very happy with the way the deal turned out, and I'm sure the other party feels the same way. I'd say the trade was definitely mutually beneficial. (thumbsu

So, what's left?

Spawn 64, 135, 156, 182, and 212.

1. Good news first! Philip Tan, famed Spawn artist extraordinaire and one of my very favorite Spawn artists of all time, completed a commission for me late last week at the SDCC. I've seen pictures and I'm a beyond pleased! This may very well be my favorite commission to date. It looks impressive in the pictures, but I'll make final judgement when I can hold it in my hands. Sorry to bait you, but I want to share scans for maximum impact. It's a great looking work of art. I'll say it's a superior piece to say...Spawn 250 (Tan Variant) or even Spawn 150 (Tan Variant). I feel like he went full force. :whee:

2. Disappointed that I didn't take home the Modern Age Award this year. I won't cry about it. Hopefully my set will be complete by next summer. But not taking home the prize meant that I had to shell out for another year's membership. After renewing for another year, I sent off a batch of hand-picked raws. We'll see what happens! I'm always excited when I have a submission out there in the mix. Also waiting for a few reholders to come back. A few of my recently acquired slabs had minor chipping/crack damage, so I decided to send them out straight away. The seller was nice enough to cover the reholder fees and I was aware of the damage before agreeing to the deal.

3. A few more people have come out of the woodwork to help me chase down the remaining five. Still in the early stages. :wishluck:

4. I've decided to trim the collection. I feel like the Spawn (complete) set has been ruined by questionable additions. I lost interest in the "complete" set around the time CGC offered a set focusing strictly on the monthly release from Spawn. As a result, I recently decided to sell a decent portion of my beloved collection. Some of the books sold like hotcakes. Others are currently holding interest on eBay. Focusing strictly on the Spawn title itself, instead of trying to track down every Spawn book ever made in 9.8 or higher, has been very liberating. The extra money and space has been nice. I've found a huge storage cab for my comics (more on that later), but it can barely hold issues 1-275 including all of the many, many variants. It stings a little to see all of these rare one-shots and mini-series books flying off my shelves, but my true happiness is in collecting the title run itself. I don't really want to list what's gone, but if you ever check in  from time to time on the movement of the set, you'll be able to notice a few absences.

5. I'm actually going to try to flip a book, but I think I'll keep it now. You'll see what it is soon! Nothing to do with Spawn BTW. But I might do something special with this book to make it stand out a bit.

Updates on everything coming soon! Sorry for being gone...hope there is still an audience left after the board change.

This Philip Tan commission was done during SDCC 2017.  This one took my breath away when I unboxed it. Stunning. I like this piece better than almost any of his actual Spawn covers. I think he had a killer run with the series, and I had to see if I could land a commission. This is one of my favorite comics now! Thanks to Philip Tan and his representative - Kirk Dilbeck. Special thanks to Doug Peters for doing all of the handling. Doug, I couldn't be happier with the grade! WOW! :cloud9:

Everyone involved with this book was a true professional from beginning to end, and all of them chose to remain in contact with me throughout the process. I didn't have to ask. I think the whole crew, top to bottom, was glad to see this one through. Again, couldn't be more thrilled.

Thanks so much for the compliments! I'm always happy to hear from people who follow my journal. I apologize for the lack of updates, but I held off on a number of posts because the CGC said they were going to transfer the journals over to the new format, which is absolutely atrocious, in my opinion. Fortunately, it looks like they've forgotten about it. Or maybe they came to their senses?

Anyway, enough about the new board madness. I'm finally used to the aesthetic, if nothing else.

This collection has taken some serious dedication and it's been an intense passion of mine for almost five years now. Only five books left until I have 1-275 (w ALL variants) totally "licked" as we called it growing up in the mountains of Appalachia. Good possibility that I'm actually down to three, but we'll have to wait a while to see.

I'll try to post more. Lots to talk about.

I can't wait to share my new "grading rig" with the boards. After several years, I'm starting to get fairly decent at grading. My last submission was 12 books and I called them all beforehand exactly like the CGC. Batting over 95% for the year. Only going to get better thanks to my new gear. Stand by for updates.

Well i hope the journal migration works out, looking forward to following the content. I'm not sure what the old/new format looks like, as i read this it looks like any other thread on the forums, so it seems fairly easy to navigate.

I am planning to slab my first books this year at a con in November, and I wanted to ask your opinion on what to do with a particular Spawn book. I don't want to hijack this thread with my question, can i send you a PM?

Newshane, as a fellow Spawn collector, I envy you! Your Spawn set has to be the greatest set I have every seen!! I recently sent a couple Spawn books to get graded.

Anyways, outstanding job with your Spawn set. Truly fantastic.
