Popular Post bc
The idea for Groot? Best part about Halloween time is the movies - so I'm sitting here watching a classic B grade monster flick from 1957 called "From Hell it Came". Here's a quick synopsis from wikipedia: "A South Seas island prince is wrongly convicted of murder and executed by having a knife driven into his heart, the result of a plot by a witch doctor (the true murderer) who resented the prince's friendly relations with American scientists stationed on a field laboratory on the island. The prince is buried in a hollow tree trunk and forgotten about until nuclear radiation reanimates him in the form of the "Tabonga", a scowling tree stump. The monster escapes from the laboratory and kills several people, including the witch doctor, whom the Tabonga pushes down a hill to be impaled on his own crown of shark teeth. The creature cannot be stopped, burned, or trapped. Only when a crack rifle shot from one of the scientists drives the knife (which still protrudes from the creature's chest) all the way through its heart does it finally die and sink into the swamp." I nearly blew Guinness out my nose when I saw Tabonga: Here's a short clip of Tabonga in action: The promo poster: Since it is a pretty unique character, just wonder if Stan or Jack maybe used this as a concept a few years later in 1960. I know Groot came from space (and could bend at the shoulders), but there is quite a bit of a resemblance IMHO. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.... -bc The Commissioner, Sweet Lou 14, Bronty and 2 others
KirbyJack
I laughed at your first sentence: I was watching that before my wife got home and vetoed it. I should have fought her on it! I’m ashamed to say that there is no prehero monster pumpkin this year. I went with this to rep Marvel. He’s mostly monstrous. mtlevy1, Jasonmorris1000000 and The Commissioner

So TCM had a viewership of at least 2 for that classic -bc

Did several close to that back when my daughter was young, but not specifically a Goom. Did an Iron Man once. I live about 1100 feet from the road in the woods now, haven't had a trick-or-treater ever so I don't do much anymore. Although next week we take the trucks down to the local pumpkin patch, load up the remaining pumpkins and use them as target practice for the upcoming deer season. -bc KirbyJack

I almost want to say "it's a blast" ...but that's too easy We been doing it for at least 20 years now, sort of an annual tradition. My buddy "Country" usually roasts a small pig and there's tons of fixins. Even some of the ladies have been getting into the target shooting, my buddies wife is at least as good as most of us with a 12 gauge. I'll try to remember and take some pics of exploding melons. -bc
