Got absolutely shellacked on C-Link last night, SO ... as a consolation prize and since it was on my watch list and had some recent attention drawn to it, I grabbed this one! Not an easy book to find in nice shape!!!

Nice consolation prize!

I noticed the bidding on CLink (and everywhere else) has been pretty aggressive for all the PHM books. Some strong prices realized across the board.

It bugs me to see “Atlas” on pre hero Marvels. If they need a strict dividing line, they can use January 1959 December 1958.

FTFY.

Strange Worlds 1 was cover dated 12/58 :)

That issue also saw the beginning of the "T" job codes as well as a shift to various sub-publishers like Manvis, Zenith and Vista.

This one to me has historical significance too because it’s got Kirby, Ditko, and monsters.  Now if it only had Stan Lee it would be a pre-pre-hero Marvel.

Come to think of it, none of the PHM covers featured a giant feline monster.

They missed out on some great concepts:

Beware of Meowzer!

or

The Nine Lives of Furrbo!

or

Clawzilla Strikes!

So much potential.....

If you're not into high grade copies, there're way more affordable than some superhero stuff.  I originally started collecting them because I couldn't afford Silver Age Spider-Man at the time.  The only one of these I spent over a $100 on was the #1

This thread is dangerous for me. Always loved this era of books but have never dabbled. Enjoying the covers!

You're right!  There's so many possibilities.  The beast of Dr. Felinenstein?

It's so hard to stay focused! I swear this should be my avatar some times.
