Leafcasting Comic Books

179 posts in this topic

I get asked all the time about leaf casting comics. So to have a thread with nothing but leaf casting seemed like the easiest solution.

NO CT, no full monty resto...just leaf casting comic books.

Various examples of casted comics to follow.

Very awesome! Thanks for putting an example with pictures it really helps understand how the restoration works!

I wish there were more posts like this for other things..examples of rust, foxing, color breaks etc. Many of us we know what they are but it would be nice to have in one centralized location for anyone who needs a reference. Would be a great resource for new collectors :)

I never cease to be impressed by the skill involved in this process.

More pictures please - anytime!

Here are a few books from old threads buried in the nether regions of the resto forum.

Another Rat Chewed book I used as practice.

How long does the process take to 'leafcast' a front and back cover (ie with blank space still left) - and please don't try to explain why too specifically as it will fly WAY over my head!

.

If I were to just leaf cast a typical cover.(no major washing, or tape removal beforehand)

Match, and blend paper into pulp.

Prep the cover if it is completely split.

Cast the cover.

Blot and dry.

Removal from the spun carrier.

Trimming to size.

All told, I can leaf cast most any full cover in 5-6 hours.

Many times less...sometimes more. Depends on the cover, and what it needs.

Interior pages are similar, yet different.
