I have an extra but would only be interested in trading for another 9.8 book I need for my set.  If you are interested please take a look at my set and let me know if you have anything to trade that I don't already have 9.8.

(I think we traded in the past when I had the two 9.6 Platinum Editions)

Just sent you a link to what I have listed on eBay currently. Would gladly make a trade for this!

No. I think we've mentioned this before....AOS #499, Action #686, and MOS #20 are the kings, while AOS #498 and Supes #77 are at least a tier down....silver medal, if you will...

Having seen a bunch of these over the years, I concur with RMA.   None of these are easy to find, especially in high grades.  I've also found them in the packs, and those black covers tend to get dinged slightly even when they stayed in the packs for all those years.

Recently added Superman 79 & 81. Still on the lookout for #80! 👀

The Reign of the Supermen issues have been a pain to find online in 9.8 grade. It seems like 9.8 examples for these books realize anywhere from $20 to $80. I've had several chances to get many of these over the years, but they would come up for sale at the worst times, like after a car repair, home repair, appliance purchase, medical bill, vet bill, purchase of a big book, or strip club visit (just kidding). Now I'm kicking myself for not getting them when I could. These books are everywhere raw, but they are always in bad shape.

Love the covers for Superman #79 and #81! I got my copy of #81 last year around Christmas time for less than $30.

It's very hard to justify submitting any $1 raw book to CGC when even a 9.8 might sell for $20.  That's all work and no reward.

I would expect Death, Funeral, Reign books to be very easy to find in CGC 9.8 if the raw books ever move to closer to $3 each raw, since CGC 9.8s regularly selling for $40+ tend to bring out plenty of supply.  Early (non-#1) issues of Spawn are the best (contemporary) examples of this, since Spawn #2 through #8 are common (let's say $3 raw) books with more than 150 Universal CGC 9.8s each.

That would be me. I have it listed high as it has been a while since any sealed packs have been listed containing these two. I also had the MOS 20 which I just sold for $165 + shipping.  20200127_085949.jpg.5d3d4a90dd5fc3f94aa80bd1f164c474.jpg

The other reason for the high start listings is what I have seen some of these other sealed packs selling for recently. Screenshot_20191209-104752_eBay.jpg.79f745ceaa0c1d64d21921f4e373e65e.jpgScreenshot_20190925-120034_Chrome.jpg.1e9e6eecdd884cbb2f264f4fcb9317a0.jpgScreenshot_20200129-000244_eBay.jpg.d6627e4f45db12747cc5c78128a8215b.jpgScreenshot_20200128-225444_eBay.jpg.00a27aaddefc5217ebac857f0561db1c.jpgScreenshot_20200129-000316_eBay.jpg.9b0d617cabb635528df7c0e64525ec85.jpg

If you are interested in the pack I would be more than happy to sell it for less off of ebay or offer on ebay.

That's the big problem. These books are not rare, by any definition of the word. But...they exist in limbo, because they're not worth the effort

If someone wants one of these, they have to either A. find the books and submit them themselves (a very worthwhile endeavor!) or B. offer up a price commensurate with the time and effort it takes...certainly no less than $50 S&H at a minimum.

That's awesome...Happy to hear/see it's a board member.

To be clear I wasn't accusing over over-pricing as much as I was trying to gauges if that is the market on these. Especially with it being sealed I assume it's worth more..maybe not?

Don't misunderstand: the prices for the DOS and FFAF issues are perfectly justifiable; after all, they're part of one of the biggest events in comics history, ever, and it's a GREAT and attainable set to get in 9.8...with some diligence.

But for random issues of Guy Gardner? Or Green Lantern? Or Batman?

That's crazy.

I completely understand and wasn't under the impression you were. I was just adding some more information here since you posted a question about them. I am always willing to work on price and also interested to see what others say as well.

I also agree with this as I was shocked to see some of these prices as you said they can be all over the place on some of these random issues. Only thing I can think is that someone REALLY WANTS some of them in higher grade as some of these in 9.8 can go really insane,  Although as you said some of these DOS can be high as they have VERY FEW graded copies and most only have 1 graded and having the black makes them very tough to obtain in high grade or finding a copy worth submission. Screenshot_20200115-161420_eBay.jpg.c1a47d4e24126515b69cebc065370d2f.jpg20190924_144014.jpg.9443052308f11226bc5377916c5dd631.jpg20190903_135855.jpg.62c0823efaafe3a21794ae828ad24578.jpg20190616_140240.jpg.ec54feb2d02305f79da9151f61f8d86d.jpgScreenshot_20200130-091016_eBay.jpg.9bd1f30349380dfd2cbbdc31d1b53a42.jpgScreenshot_20191228-191948_eBay.jpg.92426b130176590ee2eaad27da880f48.jpgScreenshot_20191216-160117_eBay.jpg.34cd118f1aa8a191717acc106747e0c9.jpg

I'm not currently in the market for these particular books raw but if I was and if I was fairly certain that I would get at least one of these back 9.8, I'd happily pay that price.  My concern is that after opening quite a few of these now, I haven't personally gotten lucky enough for this to be the case yet.  Even the sealed (Funeral and Doomsday) boxed sets that I have come across have had either impact dents, or foxing issues lower in the stack.  I'm at the point where, at least for me, it's worth TRYING to be patient and then paying the premium for the graded 9.8's.  I passed on a 9.8 499 3rd and still regret that big time (what's $800.00 after all except money!).  Also passed on a 9.8 AC 686 2nd; don't regret that (as much) because I knew someone that the book meant more too and I didn't want to be a jerk.

Having said that, I have dealt with this particular seller and have always been happy.  He's super honest about condition and packs really well!

And I was halfway to 21 when DOS came out; I cannot imagine how exciting it would have been to someone who was 9, 10, 11, or 12.

Heady days, that fall of 1992...

Does that mean you were 20.5 years old?  Because if you were actually halfway to 21 (10.5 years old), then you can imagine how exciting it would have been to someone who was 9, 10, 11, or 12.

Hello, just wondering if anyone has any insight as to why there is such a high ‘asking’ price on this book?  I got my copy several years ago and think I spent about $115.00 for it and am always surprised to see these listings.  Was there a low print run, etc?  Or, are these actually just crazy prices? The census doesn’t indicate anything special. Appreciate any info.

I’d say just crazy @$s prices! I got my 9.8 for $30 some 12 or 13 years ago. I also pulled a raw copy that is a solid 9.8 candidate at Denver Comic Con for $2.00 four years ago.
