Other than the Alex Ross Superman Forever statue is there a GOOD 12" (ish) Superman statue out there, cause I cant find one? Every sculpt I see either has a weird head, or an off face...Am I missing one?

Just added this Hal Jordan Green Lantern from the DC Designer line. The Designer line seems great to me. Right size (i like 12"-14"), great prices and sculpts are more hit than miss.

That looks nice! It seems like the drive with statues nowadays is to go bigger bigger bigger. Sideshow did Premium Format, then XM Studios came along, Prime I Studios, all of that stuff. There should still be a market for pieces in this size range, like what Bowen gave us for so many years. I like it!

Just received the Hot Toys Iron Man Gauntlet today. $377.00 for a piece of plastic junk!  Will probably be returning this thing.  I have the Thanos Gauntlet which is pretty awesome and incorrectly assumed this would be of equal quality. First, when I picked up the box it was so light I thought it was empty. The reason is because this thing is pure plastic junk!  I haven’t wasted this much money since I bought a Roomba!

It displays well enough but feels super cheap.  Really disappointed in this one... I’d say it’s about an $80 - $100 novelty vice a $377 ‘collectible.’  I checked Sideshow’s site just now and noticed (too late) that they left out what this was made of and I incorrectly assumed it would be poly stone like it’s Thanos counterpart.  Boy was I wrong!  Don’t waste your money on this one!

P.S. I ended up returning it. Just too junky feeling to keep... especially for $377.00!!  Also, forgot to mention the base was even worse than the gauntlet as far as cheap plastic goes!

Interestingly, the “iconic” Superman statue very much depends on what Superman artist or era you prefer? The Superman “Cover” statues by DC Direct (as it was called back then) are cool and capture the artwork of Siegel, Boring, and Burnley (and Gil Kane but I didn’t include a photo). Pulled a these photos off the internet since I’ve never taken photos of mine:

Then there’s Bowen’s statue. I prefer the mini-version because the cape is also cold cast porcelain (unlike the larger version that Seinfeld had on display in his apartment).

There’s also a great recreation of the Curt Swan Superman which is a favorite of mine:

Jim Lee’s art:

The “Superman versus” statues are also cool. My favorite is  Supes v. Darkseid:

Then there’s the great stuff by Sideshow! All Super!

Best,

John

Rearranged a few statues to fit in the Green Arrow. Also a close up of the (IMO) the best Vampirella piece.

Thanks. I’ve been thinking about buying my first statue and keep being drawn to that particular WW. I see several on eBay.

Just preordered this after substantial deliberation:

Not totally in love with this one--hope the belt doesn't end up being that yellow, but been wanting a Miller Batman for a while.

I cant not stare at the spike nipples.

Here’s a few I’ve had a long time. Love the balance of the Spidey statue. A French company made it if memory serves. Supes is a mini Bowen.

Great stuff! The Seinfeld Supes Bowen mini-statue is special because it’s all porcelain unlike the larger version with the plastic cape. The thing to remember about the DC Direct stuff is that they were made from cold-cast porcelain unlike resins used by others. DC Direct statues were also hand painted while other companies like Bowen’s were machine painted. Love the Bowens and Randy’s sculpts are still the standard for more affordable primary market non-mixed media statues. You got a lot more back in the day for less money.

I call these two ebony and ivory. Pretty sure the unpainted one went unfinished because of the base damage. One of Bowen’s first.

The unpainted statue is very cool.  I have two of the resin ones, with one unopened.  I also purchased one of the bronze statues directly from Bob Chapman of Graphitti Designs.  Bob is the official tshirt vendor for SDCC.  When I asked Bob, why no more Doc Savage collectibles?  Bob sadly replied that they were not selling well.

That’s a keeper. I’d sure love one of those someday.
