This was a much ballyhooed attempt at recapturing the magic of early Spider-man. Richard Rider was a clone of Peter Parker: troubled teen, alliterative name, struggling with adolescence, unwanted superpowers thrust onto him...

 

They even threw some old Spidey villains at him in the first ten issues, just in case we hadn't already made the connection.
