X-Men: Apocalypse set for May 27, 2016

Nerd Reactor posts movie trailer and movie reviews. Both contributors went to see X-Men: Apocalypse, and loved it.

They also noted this is one of the best X-Men films, one of the most violent, and ranked it just above Days of Future Past because of Apocalypse's threat and Magneto's contributions as a Horsemen.

The Collider Team, on the other hand, had mixed reviews.

It sounds like they went in needing to see something that exceeded Days of Future Past, and for them the movie did not reach this goal.

They really liked Nightcrawler, Ororo, Quicksilver, Magneto and Xavier. Mystique was the weak point, in their opinion. 'She was not Mystique'.

4.0/10.0, 6.5/10.0, 7.8/10.0 across the three.

X-Men movies are just slightly better made than FF movies, so i have no faith in this being any good (First Class was excellent though). haven't seen anyone hyped over this like Civil War.

What X-Men movies have you been watching? 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' and 'X-Men: First Class' are just as good as any Marvel Studios film we've seen. Even 'The Wolverine' was a great little film, except for that annoying female villain. But at least her scenes were very limited.

Even when he regains his healing powers, Hugh Jackman delivers one heck of a hardcore killer Wolverine performance.

And the beginning of that film when we see Logan served during WW II is visually fantastic! Showing him at the actual bombing of Nagasaki, and how he formed a relationship with Lord Yashida was very nicely done.

I actually like Jennifer Lawrence, but agree that she was miscast for X-Men from the get-go.

That said, as amazing as she was in Winter's Bone, Silver Linings Playbook and the first two Hunger Games movie, she was by _far_ the weakest link in American Hustle.

It was almost laughable how much better Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Robert DeNiro and even (improbably) Jeremy Renner were than her in that film.

Granted - it didn't help that her character was 10-plus years older than her IRL but I was _really_ surprised how she paled compared to virtually everyone else.

I thought she was utterly brilliant in American Hustle. She was the wild card that kept everyone on their toes. Without her, the movie would have felt a bit too formula.

Golden Globe and Oscar voters agreed with you.

I'd disagree with this:

1) All four principal actors for American Hustle (Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence) received Oscar nominations and Golden Globe nominations -- so their level of industry recognition was roughly equal.

2) Of those 8 awards, none actually won Oscars & only Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence actually won Golden Globes -- but Amy Adams had by _far_ the more substantive role (hence, winning Actress to Lawrence's Supporting Actress) and even nailed the fake British accent.

In comparison, Lawrence's role was a glorified cameo of a scorned drunken b**tch, and could have been played equally well by any number of actresses.

The analogy to Sharon Stone's role in Casino is dead-on.

This guy would mess up a cup of coffee!

Making a good X-men is easy but this guy like most average people lacks vision.

X-men: Apocalypse = -1 star

What a POS movie!

Jennifer Lawrence also packed it in as well, fire her arse!

Good lord, it's a NWO trashing that's in response to another NWO trashing. I was skeptical of this movie, but if you feel THIS motivated to trash it, if history is any indication of anything I'm now thinking it might be good. :whee:

Name one movie I trashed that most people also didn't agree with?

Why is Magneto working for Apocalypse? His ego is so huge that he wouldn't serve as one of the four Horsemen. He's above such things.

Why is Mystique an X-Man? Oh, right. Because Jennifer Lawrence is playing her. Only reason.

How does Cyclops concussive force eye beams get stopped by lightning? Scott can blow a hole in the side of a mountain, but a lightning bolt stops them dead.

Why can Beast transform back and forth at will? Because it's cheaper and easier to not have Nicholas Hoult in make-up for the entire thing.

God knows what Fox will do to the Starjammers and the Shi'Ar. They'll probably have Corsair be Mystique's father because J-Law and Lilandra be in a love triangle with Xavier and Magneto because they need more reasons for them to fight. Not good enough to be diametrically opposed to mutantkind's role in society.

1) His motivation, while not perfect, makes sense. Wait and see. Without going into detail, it's an irrational decision made out of torment.

2) Agreed, silly.

3) Again, completely ridiculous of them to try to pull of as normal.

Define 'most people' before anyone answers.

(:

You definitely miss out on seasoned greatness.

I would give my left azz cheek for some quality time with Tara Strong.

She is ugly and 43. (shrug)

I would never spend anytime with a girl in her 40's let alone 30's. :screwy:

All I have to say is that Deadpool, the first TMNT,The Wolverine, X-2, X-men First Class, X-men Days of Future Past,Winter Soldier, and Spider-man 2 (Raimi) are all my favorite comic movies pretty much...

When I first saw X2 in the theatre it was the perfect movie.

From the opening Nightcrawler scene to the final battle.. it didn't matter that it was more of a wolverine movie by the end..

we loved it.

That said, I can see how the younger generations feel the same way about Captain America and Avengers now.

What I don't get is the whole bashing of a movie before its seen.

Lets be honest, If Scott Mendelson is the determining factor of whether or not I see a movie, I might as well kiss buckshot..

They're called trailers, and if production companies would stop shoving them down our throats, perhaps noone would have an opinion till they saw the movie

However, they keep making them because some jackenape turned to another and said, there's no such thing as bad press.

Actually, they couldn't be more wrong. That is based on the assumption that everyone is stupid.

Not everyone is stupid and believes the hype. Just turns out that is what most producers WANT you to think, so shove it in your face enough, one day you actually start to think it was your idea to begin with.

Okay, after the forumite review I am a little confused now with this movie.

lol

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Review; "The Best Instalment Of The Franchise And On Par With Some Of Marvel's Best Movies"

I went into X-Men: Apocalypse expecting not to like it. However, those of you who have been reading my stuff on here for a while now will know that I approached X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past with a similarly negative attitude, but after being proved wrong on two separate occasions, I was definitely a lot more excited for this instalment of the long running franchise. Thankfully, it delivers, and Bryan Singer has created not only his best X-Men movie yet, but one which makes it finally like this series is heading in the right direction. That's because it moves away from the same old humans vs. mutants persecution drama which plagued previous instalments to the point of tedium and at last helps X-Men to become a superhero franchise.

X-Men: Apocalypse isn't perfect by any means as it does feel a tad overlong and there are a handful of occasions where the special effects aren't that great (it's easy to spot the greenscreen in a shot with Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen standing on some very plastic looking rocks with a CGI background). Then there are the usual issues which are sure to frustrate comic book fans, like Beast being back in his human form for a big chunk of the movie. But hey, at least they have a good explanation for the black leather costumes this time! Overall though, this feels like a step in the right direction for the X-Men franchise at last as Bryan Singer finally embraces the fact that this is a comic book movie featuring superheroes, and the future now looks bright for these characters as a result.

Forget everything you've heard; X-Men: Apocalypse is the best instalment of this franchise to date and on par with some of Marvel Studios' best movies. It's a must-see and a movie that comic book fans will love.

Final Rating: 5.0/5.0

To be fair he makes a good point about it breaking from the tired convention of mutants vs humans (even then a good chunk of it deals with that very issue). One very discerning thing i found was that it didn't have a middle act. It was a very long first act and then they head out for the final act which is also very long but there is nothing in between to set up the a third act which goes against conventional storytelling.

I don't like discussing spoilers before the rest have seen it though. It certainly not terrible. I have enjoyed every X-Men movie on some level, even X3. Origins Wolverine is my guilty pleasure and very under rated. It's just such a huge step down from DoFP you wouldn't believe it was made by the same people.

Also the continuity issues will make your head explode :pullhair:
