That's because you're not funny but you think you are, and you try too hard. If you let it come naturally and didn't try to force it you'd fit in a lot better. And dont be such a Berk

Great first post. Welcome Back to the Boards :golfclap:

All of you ardent readers of this thread (oh, wait, the sarcasm flag was off) will recall me posting this photo of B-17 gunners, which I thought was probably the reference photo for a Wings issue:

Well, I now have a presentable copy of that issue of Wings in my FH box.

And if that isn't enough for you, here's a chorus line of Cossack dancing women (and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra)...

Yeah - that's another great cover. Different model of B-17 on that one, because the waist gun windows are staggered instead of being opposite.

Wings 61 is an awesome cover, very underrated.

Agreed. I like it a lot.

Here's a recent acquisition of a quite different genre.

And since too much GGA is never enough, here's a splash from inside. This'll shiver your timbers... arrr.

If that is the same one mycomicshop was selling, then I'm glad you got a nice copy of such a sweet book. I almost pulled the trigger on it but hesitated due to the 1-inch spine split. :shy:

It's the Chinese Nationalist insignia. The history of China before, during and after WW2 was fascinating and complicated. The Nationalists under Chiang kai-shek did the lion's share of the fighting against the Japanese, before going on to lose the civil war against Mao's communist forces in the period 1945-49. The Chinese Communist Party has largely written the Nationalists out of history. I was in Taiwan when the 70th anniversary of the end of WW2 passed, and the locals were plenty bitter about the way that Beijing was taking the credit.

I think he was referring to the blood chit. :gossip:

Yes, it's that one. The spine split doesn't bother me. I'll probably seal it once I've done a paper conservation course I've been eyeing off. I've actually being buying books with 'practice potential' lately. :)

I'm not sure what you mean? He said 'the Japanese (?) poster pinned to the gunner's back' - which is where the nationalist flag is. ???

On the subject of bomber covers....

The amazing thing about OOAW #83 is not only is it a Sgt Rock first appearance but also even without that designation it truly is a remarkable "inside the bomber" cover !! almost unique with the machine gun bullet feed dominating the cover , the determination of Rock and the crazy angle of the enemy fighter ... it all adds up to one of the greatest war comic covers ever IMO  !!!(worship)

How come modern covers are never that good?

I have to say I can't get too enthused about that - the figure in the foreground framed by the ammo feed is great, but given the proximity of the enemy fighter, there's no way that scene doesn't end with a mid-air collision about a quarter of a second later. There are a lot of Wings covers I can't bring myself to collect for the same reason - either a crash into the ground or a collision is inevitable given the 'pose'. See Wings 27 , 35, 48 and 59 for a few examples (there are many others). At least #20 gets it right!
