Meanwhile, deep in the state of denial... I am going to press on as if nothing happened today.

Ed Doe also sent me this gem, beautifully packed and presented as always. The arrival of this book brought to an end a quest that began in June 2008 with the purchase of Weird Fantasy #17. This is #14(2). Group shot to follow some time on the weekend.

Thanks Ed! :headbang:

On an otherwise pretty unedifying day, this landed on my desk yesterday. I've wanted this book for my war bonds collection for a very long time. If I had to nominate 'classic war bonds covers', this one and Batman #17 would be on the shortlist.

A big thank you to Jamie from SoCal Comics.

It must be a super nerd thing... because I had noticed the same thing. lol

You all need to get out more.

Here's another newly-arrived DC war bonds book to play 'spot the defect' on. :baiting:

From the Esquire Comics More Fun collection, now cracked free of its tomb.

Another day, another recent addition. I like this one. My WW2 collection has more Pacific War covers than european theatre, so this one works well. Like the USMC 'flamethrower' issue I posted a while back, this one is a mixture of comic and magazine content, about half and half.

I should roll back those little flaps at the top before you guys get on my case again. lol

Let's see that group!

Oh, yeah, sorry. Went mountain biking instead. Patience grasshopper. lol

I actually have a few group shots to do, so there'll be a metagroup shot soonish.

One of them will contain these books:

Piracy_1.thumb.jpg.0a971e05bcaa1991bdf14ef64873fc1f.jpg

Piracy_2.thumb.jpg.755c61ba22bb10671aafbccc0cedecc5.jpg

Piracy_5.thumb.jpg.618d08399089ecb55bad392de1d5c238.jpg

Piracy_7.thumb.jpg.d09ed36f2d7298190f5b6c7d102446ce.jpg

Piracy is a great title - probably my favourite of the New Direction books. #5 contains this story:

Piracy5_lafitte.thumb.jpg.625a8fd2f49c3b87e8bafbf18efa5873.jpg

It's romanticised, but it's interesting enough to make me dig out a book on seapower in the War of 1812. Lafitte and his brother were smugglers and pirates, who set up shop on an island off Louisiana. During the war the island was seized by the United States and, in return for clemency, Lafitte helped the local forces defend New Orleans. He also got involved in the Mexican War of Independence, working both for and against the Spanish. Great stuff.

OK, that last big parcel o' comics (thanks Again Jon!) contained a few issues that rounded out runs. Here are the five Gyro Gearloose Four Color/One shot issues:

And here are the seven issues of Piracy:

... and the seven issues of Weird Science Fantasy

Finishing short runs like those is really nice. But not anything like as much fun as finishing the longer EC runs. Here are all the comic issues of Mad, plus the first magazine. I bought the first of these in April 2010:

Even better, I just finished off Weird Fantasy (first issue purchased June 2008).

For those who came in late, I now have all of the EC war and sci-fi books, as well as all of Aces High, Impact and Valor from the New Direction titles. That's 143 EC books (including three 'stragglers' from other titles). Never say never, but for now at least that seems like the end of my EC collecting. It has been a lot of fun, and I love these books, but lately I hear the siren call of Australian comics and my war bonds collection more strongly.

Here are some other EC group shots, just for completeness.

Weird_Science_group.thumb.jpg.3de623fca4dd66be15f7ef5677af088b.jpg

I don't seem to have done a group shot for Incredible Science Fiction. I must remedy that.

The inner completist decided he had a view about gropup shots as well, so here are the last 7 of my 143 EC comics.

I decided I like this group shot thing, so I might do a few more from my collection.

And to answer your question Duffbloke, this is my only copy of Extra, and it's such a dull read (despite a very cool cover) that it will be the only one. Are M.D. and Psychoanalysis worth a read?

Great snag buddy :applause:

One of my favorite trinity of Superman covers (along with Action #36 and #50). Hope to add this one to my collection one day too! Congrats!

And the group shots and other pick ups :cloud9:(worship)
